First of all read your contract. In all fairness, it is stated in black and white that your deposit is non-refundable. I missed that sentence I guess, because, a month before our trip, our jobs were compromised. When I tried to cancel, I would've lost 1/2 of my rental. So we went anyway. (I should have cancelled.) The condo was fine, for the most part. I did see a few cockroaches, but the owner was notified and will have it sprayed. She was very helpful and we appreciate her renting to us and the price was reasonable. But the resort, which is advertised with the waterslide and playground, was not very kid-friendly. The staff was the rudest staff of anywhere we have ever stayed. And we were "called down" for being too noisy; my kids are ages 2 and 5 and it was during the day, at that. We abided by the "quiet time" hours and our kids were in bed every night by 9 at the latest. I could understand it if we were throwing a wild party - but they were just playing and watching TV. Most of our time was spent outdoors; however, every hour they make the kids get out of the pool for an "adult swim" time. This is in the pool w/the waterslide. So my 5 year old would get to the top, and then have to stand in the hot sun while 3-5 elderly people stood around in the water. The place was full of crabby people. I realize that we were not at Myrtle Beach; and we usually enjoy the quiet, family places. But this place was ridiculous. The remainder of our trip was miserable trying to stifle every sound that my children made, afraid security was going to knock on our door again. Please, if you have small/young children, go somewhere else. A Place at the Beach will not be bothered with me again. And upon check out, the lady at the desk tried to charge me another cleaning fee charge, which I had already paid to the homeowner. Thank goodness I had my copy of the rental agreement. The beach was nice. And we enjoyed our trip to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and Fort Macon State Park. I have never been one to complain about a place that I have stayed, but my vacation was not very relaxing. I feel that if they do not want families with young children, this should be boldly stated.
Owner's Response: We pride ourselves on having a clean, comfortable vacation home. The Property Management does spray monthy for any insects. We have always found the Resort to be very kid friendly with many activities for the children and the staff to be respectful, courteous and helpful.
