Photos and Description of this Pocologan holiday - 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, washer/dryer, sleeps 6

This oceanfront property sits on 14 acres at the end of a ¼-mile long private drive. Sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, headlands, and islands -- and no other house in sight in any direction. There are over 700 feet of varied ocean frontage, including coves, rocks, tidal pools and a pebble beach – with a footbridge and walking path connecting all. Each of three bedrooms has a full ocean view. There are two full baths, kitchen, living, dining and laundry rooms. The entire house was repainted and redecorated in 2003. Property is between St. Andrews and Saint John, and about a ½ hour from each. It is also 6 miles from a provincial park with a mile long sand beach for swimming and miles of trails for hiking. Several excellent seafood restaurants nearby, and a small town for essentials is a ten minute drive.

McCarthy's Point is in the small fishing community of Pocalogan, New Brunswick. The coast in this area of the Bay of Fundy is generally rocky, with some tall cliffs and majestic headlands. However, there is a mile long sand beach for swimming just 5 minutes drive away at New River Beach Provincial Park. A short drive away is the old Canadian resort town of St. Andrews, with golf, many restaurants, shopping and many old Victorian estates. The province's largest city - Saint John - is about 1/2 hour drive away in the opposite direction. Ten minutes away is the town of St. George, for groceries, pharmacy, etc.

Amazing property

Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The owner has thought of everything. This get away is truely that. Spacious and cozy and the views are amazing. I can't imagine what it would be like to own such a wonderful spot but I am so thankful that this owner has shared it with us. Pocologan is very close to the border so the drive was not overwelming for us from Massachusetts . Restaurants in the area are highly recomended as is the lovely blueberry pie lady right down the street for a special treat. The kitchen is well supplied so meals in are very easy and of course the ocean can also be seen from every important room in the house. I loved cranking the windows open and listening to the waves crash as I prepared dinner. We would visit this place again in a heartbeat. Most memorable vacation we have had in many years.

Serenity by the Sea

Review Submitted: August 16, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
My husband & I and another couple stayed here first week of August, 2009. The dirt road to the house is rough, and as you break through the woods to the paved driveway and see this lovely large cape-style home atop the rock beach, you draw your breath! The 2 well-fitted and efficient bathrooms face the woods, everything else has a view of the Bay of Fundy and all the amazing sounds and scents that go with it. The waves hit those rocks and literally sing and pop (like fireworks) as the wave recedes ... never heard THAT sound at the ocean before. It's heavenly. The house is well fitted out for everything, and it is totally peaceful and quiet .. the 'poop' deck away from the house and atop the rock beach is a brilliant addition, and when you are socked in with fog (and you will be!) it's so fabulous! Point: the mosquitos here have fangs and molars! Take much bug spray!!! If you are a TV junkie ... there is one channel, but lots of DVDs to watch. We all read volumes in the evenings. There is nothing at Pocologan except this wonderful home and fabulous scenery and peace! Everything about the house is well done! The husbands, who are also woodworkers, were very impressed with the chair rail / moldings in the house. It is very nicely layed out for joint activities as well as privacy. Three couples could easily be comfortable here for a week. The 'resident' eagle paid a spectacular visit once, absolutely breath-taking .. he only teased us the rest of the days with a fly-by at a distance. The hummingbird came to the hanging plant daily and gave us a show. The house is a nice 30-minute drive to St. John, a very quaint city with plenty of good walking. We met the housekeepers upon our somewhat-early arrival, and they were so nice ... and that house wasn't just clean, it SPARKLED!!! The ladies also picked little nosegays of wildflowers and had them on the table when we returned at the proper time. A pair of playful racoons scrambled off the poop deck when I spotted them one afternoon! Little bandits! If you want peace and quiet, but still plenty to do and explore (the path over the bridge and into the woods is a fun trek!), sign up for this house! Close to other things, but serene. We bought seafood and brought it home to prepare.

perfect!

Our family had the best stay in a vacation house- ever. The house is perfect- very comfortable and lovely. The house has 3 lovely bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, and a really big, well appointed kitchen. Waking up to the sound of waves, blueberry pancakes from the blueberry ladies down the road, the sight a seal playing in the cove... it was all completely perfect.

We have 12 year old twin sons who had a blast combing the rocks and tide pools, plus there's plenty to do nearby. We'll definitely be heading back!

Paradise

Jon36 Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: May 27, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
This home is beautiful in a great location. The views are absolutely stunning. We could have quite easily spent the entire stay sitting on the deck watching the tides come in and out! The house is also surrounded by a diversity of wildlife. The nearest town is St. George which is about a 10 minute drive, and has all of the amenities you need. Saint John is about 30 - 35 minutes in the other direction. This home is in a great location if you want to explore the lower Bay of Fundy area. It's also just a one hour drive from the US border.

The home itself is very large and has everything you'll need. The basics are provided to get you started (toilet paper, kitchen towel etc) plus all linens and towels are at the house. The owner of the home is very friendly and approachable and phoned to check that all was well with our stay. We had a fantastic time staying here, it really is restful and relaxing. It's a shame we couldn't take it home with us! Highly recommended, will definitely stay again.
