Serenity by the Sea

Date of Stay: August 2009
My husband & I and another couple stayed here first week of August, 2009. The dirt road to the house is rough, and as you break through the woods to the paved driveway and see this lovely large cape-style home atop the rock beach, you draw your breath! The 2 well-fitted and efficient bathrooms face the woods, everything else has a view of the Bay of Fundy and all the amazing sounds and scents that go with it. The waves hit those rocks and literally sing and pop (like fireworks) as the wave recedes ... never heard THAT sound at the ocean before. It's heavenly. The house is well fitted out for everything, and it is totally peaceful and quiet .. the 'poop' deck away from the house and atop the rock beach is a brilliant addition, and when you are socked in with fog (and you will be!) it's so fabulous! Point: the mosquitos here have fangs and molars! Take much bug spray!!! If you are a TV junkie ... there is one channel, but lots of DVDs to watch. We all read volumes in the evenings. There is nothing at Pocologan except this wonderful home and fabulous scenery and peace! Everything about the house is well done! The husbands, who are also woodworkers, were very impressed with the chair rail / moldings in the house. It is very nicely layed out for joint activities as well as privacy. Three couples could easily be comfortable here for a week. The 'resident' eagle paid a spectacular visit once, absolutely breath-taking .. he only teased us the rest of the days with a fly-by at a distance. The hummingbird came to the hanging plant daily and gave us a show. The house is a nice 30-minute drive to St. John, a very quaint city with plenty of good walking. We met the housekeepers upon our somewhat-early arrival, and they were so nice ... and that house wasn't just clean, it SPARKLED!!! The ladies also picked little nosegays of wildflowers and had them on the table when we returned at the proper time. A pair of playful racoons scrambled off the poop deck when I spotted them one afternoon! Little bandits! If you want peace and quiet, but still plenty to do and explore (the path over the bridge and into the woods is a fun trek!), sign up for this house! Close to other things, but serene. We bought seafood and brought it home to prepare.
