Newport holiday farmhouse

Overall, we had a great stay and would rent again. Any vacation spot has it's pluses and minuses - this is meant to be a fair assessment and helpful to prospective renters. The house is comfortably furnished and well equipped with tv/dvd, window fans, full kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, towels, bed linens, toilet paper, napkins, etc. It was very clean, but because it is an old house (and despite it's newer furnishings) on a farm (flora & fauna) we had some allergy trouble. Still, the airy sun porch was a great spot to relax and play board games while enjoying the fresh breezes and listening to the ambient animal chatter. The sprawling farm has one tractor path where you can stroll up a little hill to a hay field and watch the peaceful sunset over the bay. Our kids really enjoyed feeding the fenced-in animals with an endless supply of feed provided by the owners. There were a lot of rules about where & when it's "safe" to walk, not to touch or pick anything, etc. We stayed for a week and while the owners seemed kind, attentive and quick to point out the "safety" rules, we were not offered a hay ride (as advertised). Nor were we offered any fresh produce. (The latter offering was not advertised, but we hoped for at least a little complimentary basket of something growing right under our noses- lettuce, a few eggs or a couple of ears of corn - but nothing.) The website says that the "home will accommodate up to 8 w/ an additional charge ($25) per person per night." We were asked to pay an additional $25 each in excess of 6 people. Finally, despite the vast property behind the house, the rental itself sits right on busy West Main Rd with cars whizzing by at 55 mph and the two front bedrooms echo the traffic. At the same time, this location makes it easy to get around town. The highlights of our visit included a trip to Beavertail Lighthouse on Jamestown, a stroll on the Cliff Walk, flying a kite on Ocean Drive's Brenton Point, beach days at Second Beach, the 2 for $10 lobster rolls at First Beach, and one unsurpassed, top-notch, mouth-watering dinner at the Castle Hill Inn (as for Stephanie!). There is also a little science, activity & learning store just down the road, "POW" which our kids really enjoyed (thank you to the owners & their wonderful helper, Amanda!).
