Visit the Hitching Post, the best year-round Christmas Store in Western Michigan. Take a sightseeing airplane ride at Manistee Blacker Airport nearby. Catch the world-famous Scottville Clown Band or a free jazz or music concert. About 45 minutes to the renowned Interlochen Arts Academy and National Music Camp, with performances daily (many are free).
Area:
Visit the fascinating Manistee County Historical Museum on River Street, and the Water Works Building museum on First Street. See an 1880’s dentist’s office and drug store. Find out what a logging wheel is. (It was invented in Manistee). There are free Jazz Concerts at the Rotary Gazebo on First Street beach each week, and free concerts Wednesday nights at the Victorian Gazebo on the riverfront. The Little River Casino has concerts from famous groups and artists (the 2009 schedule includes Chubby Checker, Wynonna Judd, Eddie Money and others), and it has a variety of restaurants. The Ramsdell Theater has excellent live plays and concerts, and the adjoining Manistee Art Institute has excellent exhibitions. Most Manistee restaurants have an all-you-can-eat fish fry dinner on Fridays.
