Nice Vacation

This was our second summer renting on this same stretch of beach. It is just beautiful, so much to see and do and we can't imagine spending our summer vacation anywhere else. We had to book this rental at the last minute (less than 10 days until departure!) because our previous rental had a water main break and the owners had to cancel due to extensive damage. This was our first time renting through a rental agency and not an owner. I did prefer the owner. There were NO staples in the kitchen. No salt, pepper, trash bags, tin foil, and above all NO VACUUM!!! It was also a bit of a hassle upon check in and check out because we had to locate and drive to the vacation rental offices, about 10 minutes through awful beach traffic, stand in long lines, and get and return our keys. With the homeowner townhouse, there was a coded lock box so upon check in we just opened up the box - got the key - walked in.
The decor is outdated and the place needs a new coat of paint and new flooring. However, it is clean and the beds were comfortable.
My biggest complaint was that the third bedroom was a separate unit that was accessible only by walking outside down a flight of narrow stairs. Not fun at night because the porch lights were not working and it was pretty dark!!
The townhouses in the complex were in good shape and there were no noisy neighbors. Another thing that bothered me was that we were supposed to be on a private stretch of beach for condo owners and their guests, but there were no signs and no barrier - so the general population parked their enormous beach umbrellas, chairs, coolers, kites, and selves right in front of the ocean and left them there for days on end. Finally on our last day of vacation, a condo owner came and booted everyone off and set out little American flags in the sand to section off our beach.
All in all it was a nice vacation. The beach was immaculate, the water was perfect and the views were amazing. I probably would not stay there again due to the separate third bedroom (lucky nobody broke their neck on the stairs) and the lack of supplies.
Owner's Response: Some updates since sredish's review: we do provide basic staples but nothing ingestible for sanitary reasons and there is a vacuum on site. Access to the property is by digital keypad - the passcode is emailed to the guest - no need to check-in at the rental office. The property has been completely renovated Jan. 2009 including kitchen, all bathrooms, all tile flooring and carpets, paint and bedding. The deck stairs to the beach level are illuminated from dusk until dawn. I'm confident our guests will be pleased with these improvements.
