County Mayo holiday

We stayed here for three weeks in July and August and highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone planning on staying in the Westport area. This home is really lovely with quality furnishings and not at all what you'd expect to find in a rental home. The downstairs entry way leads into a large, fully equipped kitchen with beautiful wooden cabinets and a solarium with a great view of Croagh Patrick. Also to the right of the entry way French doors lead into the living room with a fieldstone fireplace and the dining area. The dining area which has a large marble table that seats ten people comfortably can also be accessed from the kitchen. The downstairs bedroom has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Next to the bedroom is a good size half bath and a real comfortable den for watching TV, a DVD or to just relax and read a good book. Upstairs are three more nice bedrooms and two more bathrooms with one in-suite. The views from this house are really spectacular with Croagh Patrick almost in the backyard and across the road Clew Bay with its islands and mountains, which can be seen from every room in the front of the house. It was most enjoyable at meal time to sit at the dining room table and see the beautiful view of Clew Bay through the living room windows.
If you want to climb Croagh Patrick the entrance is approximately a mile or so from the house. The statue of St. Patrick is a short walk from the Gift Shop and you get a really nice view of the bay from there. Directly across the street form the entrance is the Famine Ship and the path behind the ship leads to the ruins of the Murrisk Friary, which was founded in 1457.
Westport is a charming town with lots of nice shops. Don't miss Carrig Dun and the Foxford Shop across the street from each other, as they are especially nice. Also a great place to have lunch is Curry's Cottage a delightful little Tea Room and Bakery. It was one of our favorite places and always crowded, but well worth the wait. The food is very good and not expensive. There is lots to do around Westport and some very pretty scenic drives.
A word of caution - if you're from the states and plan on changing your dollars to euros when you arrive in Ireland don't bring any hundred dollar bills. None of the shops or banks will accept them and there is a service charge every time you use your credit card.
