This villa is as described. Sandra did a good job including so many pictures, that's exactly what it looks like! The beds were comfortable, everything worked and when we walked in the place was immaculate.
The only draw backs were that the beach across the street is not good for much but looking at. It's full of rocks (and glass) instead of sand and you can't swim because it's only ankle deep for a long long way. If you want to try to swim be sure to bring booties or something to protect your feet. This was a major bummer for me because this meant that we had to drive to go snorkeling. There are some nice spots about 10 minutes away to snorkel but that meant that we had to get BACK IN THE CAR. The advantage of East End is that it is not crowded, the disadvantage is that you have to drive to do anything. 45 minutes in the car every day is not my idea of relaxation. However, the destinations were worth it. Smith's Cove was our favorite, great snorkeling and great beach (with flushable toilets!). Rum Point was another favorite, closer too!
Sandra, the property owner, was great at getting back to me whenever I had a question. One thing that is not stated on the website is that you need to supply your own paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.). I'm glad I had asked about this before we arrived!
Overall, we had a fantastic trip and can't wait to go back. This villa was a great place to come back to night after night. If you chose this rental you won't be sorry.
Have a great trip!
Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments! Pearlene (our property mgr) and her sisters do an exceptional job cleaning our place and take great pride in their work. I'd love to bring them home with me -- but then, who would look after our villa?
The beach across the street from us is fine for sunbathing and for children to play in & collect shells. It is a natural beach and therefore will have some seaweed, rocks, coral & sea shells. I went over to the beach as soon as I saw the comment about the glass so I could clean it up -- but I could not find any. The tide brings things in (most of it thrown overboard by people on the boats) but also takes things away. Our beach is combed a few times a year, but not monthly like the hotels do. There are 2 beautiful public beaches combed regularly less than 10 minutes away in either direction. (One is walking distance, east of the Texaco station).
Snorkelling is good at HIGH tide -- but at low tide you will walk out a long way before it gets deep. Unfortunately, our guests did not know about ocean tides.
I am up front in telling everyone you DO need a car in the East End. Smith Cove is truly beautiful, but it is way back in Georgetown and that is a 45 minute drive. It is somewhat misleading for our guest to say "45 minutes in the car every day ..." They chose to drive to Georgetown every day; you do not need to, there are many great places much closer by.
We do not have daily maid service because we are not a hotel. We do provide guests with a starter kit -- 4 or 5 dishwasher tablets, small bars of soap for every shower (would last 1 person for the week), soft-soap at every sink, new roll of toilet paper on every holder and one roll of paper towels.
Many villas in Cayman do not even do this; you are expected to provide everything. If you are lucky, a previous guest may have left some behind. But it is a point well taken, I will advise our future guests about this so they know to either bring it, or buy some at the store when they go shopping. :-)
