The House:
Moon Hill was built in 1997, and is in like new condition, with soaring ceilings, wide open spaces. It has been used as our personal residence, reflected in the quality of the furnishings and overall beauty of the house, and is much loved. This is the first season it will have been rented.
It is in an extraordinary place, both because of its location, with 360 degree views, all the way to New Hampshire, and its beautiful, spacious contemporary design give the visitor a sense of peace and privacy.
It's sited on about 5 acres, with a sledding hill and open lawn area, and another 18 acres across the road with varied terrain for snowshoeing or hiking.
It's warm and cozy, thanks to its radiant floor heating, and passive solar design, with sun streaming in most of the day, and roaring fireplace at night. There are views everywhere you look, and the extensive use of glass truly brings the outdoors inside. There is a rooftop hatch that provides 360 degree view. Fantastic.
The Area - Weston & Manchester:
The house is on the border of the towns of Andover and Weston, and looks down on Weston, about 3 minutes away. Weston, founded in the 1700's is recognized as one of the most beautiful and picturesque towns in Vermont, with art galleries, restaurants, the Weston Playhouse, and the Vermont Country Store - one of the must-see attractions of the state, with thousands of fun and historic items - a great place to spend time, especially with kids, when you're not on the slopes.
Heading down Route 100 from Weston, you'll end up in Manchester, an excellent destination for its numerous restaurants, outlets, galleries, bookstore, Orvis flagship store, historic Hildene (home of Robert Todd Lincoln) and Equinox (a rock resort featuring the Avanyu Spa) and SVAC art center.
Other day trips can include Grafton, Ludlow, Woodstock, Dorset, Killington and many other destinations.
Skiing/Winter Sports:
Okemo, Bromley, Stratton and Magic mountains are the nearest ski areas, with all but Okemo directly visible from the house (along with Mt Snow, a bit further). There are excellent cross-country and snow shoeing facilities at Wild Wings in Peru (by Bromley), at Grafton Pond, in Grafton, t Hildene (the home of Robert Todd Lincoln) in Manchester and at Okemo and Stratton's nordic facilities.
