I Cannot Return Soon Enough

I rented this lovely little cottage for a week so that I could prepare for a major examination in a peaceful, inspiring environment, and spend a few of those days alone with my husband far away from the busy-ness of suburban living. The cottage and its setting exceeded my expectations. When the cottage came into view at the end of the drive, a little gasp escaped my mouth, as the property was even lovelier than the photos depict. I was warmly greeted by Frieda Graber, who provided me with everything I needed to make my stay perfect. The cottage was spotless, and its restoration is a perfect blending of old and new. The property is exquisitely landscaped and borders a babbling brook that provides soothing, round-the-clock background "music." Here again, the Grabers' talent for blending old and new is evident in the nearly seamless joinder of the patio and the brook. I studied in the morning and late afternoon on the patio. In the evening, I enjoyed my choice of sofa and chairs in the living room where I studied to the sounds of the brook and to actual music, which I was able to listen to thanks to the CD player in the cottage. The bedroom was cozy and comfortable. I intentionally did not set the alarm, and the absolute serenity of the cottage and its setting was borne out by the fact that I slept ten hours every night! The bathroom has a modern sink, toilet, and shower. The kitchen contains everything needed to enjoy meals on the property. The cottage is close to Lancaster, and there are many winding, back roads suitable for long rides in the country. I even found an Amish farmer with a roadside stand where I was able to buy shoo-fly pie that was almost as good as my grandmother's! This is a perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy solitude in a peaceful setting. I was concerned that the property would not be private, as I knew that it was on the Grabers' property. However, their house cannot be seen from the cottage, as it sits on its own parcel of land. I highly recommend this property and cannot wait to return, which I plan to do next spring and, hopefully, every spring thereafter.
