Photos and Description of this Atglen holiday cottage 1 BR, 1 BA, Sleeps 2

This cottage is a recently restored small stone house built in the early 1700's. It is located on the residence of Reuben and Frieda Graber. It sits in a secluded spot beside a beautiful creek, at the edge of a large wooded area. A rear, shaded, stone patio overlooks the creek. An additional patio contains an outdoor dining set, and outdoor fireplace/grill. Landscaped flower gardens surround the house. Hiking trails border the property. On the first floor is an open beamed living room with a non-working fireplace, an adjoining fully equipped kitchen. On the second story is a bathroom with shower, and bedroom equipped with a queen-sized bed. A locally handmade quilt decorates the bed. This is a romantic, get-away for two. It is the perfect 'home away from home' and is an easy drive to all the local tourist sites and wonderful shopping of Lancaster and Chester County.

Better than the Ad

This stone cottage was better than the ad displayed on the internet and the ad was beautiful. The landscaping was flawless and the inside was gorgeous and inviting. The brook outside made a wonderful place to relax, snooze or read. We had our breakfast each morning with the birds and chipmunks. The atmosphere was perfect for a get-a-way from telephones, TV and the outside world. The owners have done an excellent job of creating an enviroment for meditating, study or romancing.

Loved it!

We stayed in a garage apartment attached to the main house and not the cottage, but can highly recommend the owner and property. The cottage looks just like it is in the photo and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You are staying on 14 acres of peaceful, beautiful countryside that is close to many wonderful places to visit. The owner is very gracious and accomodating. We stayed a month and would return in a heartbeat.

I want to go back. July 20 - 27, 2009

We can't say enough about this beautiful little stone cottage. It is a step back in time. As you sit on the outdoor patio cooking dinner over the fire you can hear the clip clop of the horse and buggy on the road above. We brought a small portable DVD player. There is a power outlet on the stone wall outside by the grill. We sat outside by the fire and watched a moive in the evening. How cool is that! The landscaping was beautiful. We had everything we needed on the inside. We did not want to leave. We did easy day trips to Gettysburg, Ocean Grove, NJ and Hershey. Rick and Debbie ... Seminole, Florida

I Cannot Return Soon Enough

Kathryn W. Haddonfield, NJ, USA
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I rented this lovely little cottage for a week so that I could prepare for a major examination in a peaceful, inspiring environment, and spend a few of those days alone with my husband far away from the busy-ness of suburban living. The cottage and its setting exceeded my expectations. When the cottage came into view at the end of the drive, a little gasp escaped my mouth, as the property was even lovelier than the photos depict. I was warmly greeted by Frieda Graber, who provided me with everything I needed to make my stay perfect. The cottage was spotless, and its restoration is a perfect blending of old and new. The property is exquisitely landscaped and borders a babbling brook that provides soothing, round-the-clock background "music." Here again, the Grabers' talent for blending old and new is evident in the nearly seamless joinder of the patio and the brook. I studied in the morning and late afternoon on the patio. In the evening, I enjoyed my choice of sofa and chairs in the living room where I studied to the sounds of the brook and to actual music, which I was able to listen to thanks to the CD player in the cottage. The bedroom was cozy and comfortable. I intentionally did not set the alarm, and the absolute serenity of the cottage and its setting was borne out by the fact that I slept ten hours every night! The bathroom has a modern sink, toilet, and shower. The kitchen contains everything needed to enjoy meals on the property. The cottage is close to Lancaster, and there are many winding, back roads suitable for long rides in the country. I even found an Amish farmer with a roadside stand where I was able to buy shoo-fly pie that was almost as good as my grandmother's! This is a perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy solitude in a peaceful setting. I was concerned that the property would not be private, as I knew that it was on the Grabers' property. However, their house cannot be seen from the cottage, as it sits on its own parcel of land. I highly recommend this property and cannot wait to return, which I plan to do next spring and, hopefully, every spring thereafter.

My husband and I were able to stay 2 nights here. It is even more beautiful than the pictures. The sounds of the creek beside the home are so soothng. The home is amazing and the landscaping is perfect. We both have stressful jobs and this was the perfect place to de-stress before beginning our sightseeing tour. From the property you see no other homes. The owner is great. If you are lucky enough to stay here, you will not be sorry. We would return in a minute.
