A stay at Norway House will give you the peaceful tranquility of a quiet country setting, but also the convenience of being centrally located to all the sites and attractions available on Mount Desert Island. The entrance to Acadia National Park is just a five minute drive away. Norway House is just 6 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. Southwest Harbor, a traditional New England fishing village, and Northeast Harbor, where you will find unique galleries and shops as well as a lively marina, are both just a 15-20 minute drive from Norway House. This owner built post and beam home is unique from any other. The home was built in the Shaker tradition from wood that was harvested from the land it sits on, with hand cut joinery and pegs. The property boasts an extra large deck overlooking a naturally landscaped yard for outside entertaining. After a long day of hiking or biking, you will rejoice in the double sized spa tub in the master bath.

This home is in a great location with easy access to all of MDI. Only minutes (5 - 7) from downdown Bar Harbor. Being in a wooded setting gives a mountain feel to the home which made lounging on the deck first thing in the morning or late afternoon very peaceful. We were traveling with another family, both of us have teenage girls, and we loved the set up of the home. The girls especially liked the foosball and ping pong tables in the basement. We played every night! We found the home to be very clean and to have everything we needed. The owner was excellent and easy to work with in all aspects of the rental process. We would definitely stay at this home again.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Great Stay at Norway House

Property description was accurate if not understated. Ideal central location on MDI allowed easy access to both Bar Harbor (7minute drive), Acadia national park entrance (4 minutes) and the "quiet side" of the island (15 min to SW Harbor) for both indoor and outdoor activities. Amenties were superb:modern gourmet kitchen, comfortable beds, roomy interior with lots of natural light and strategically placed windows. All amenties were included and available.Property was spotless and well maintained (only 4 years old). Owners were friendly, responsive, and provided good customer service. I would definitely recommend to a friend and hopefully plan on rerenting in the future. MDI and Acadia provides great access to hiking, biking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities while being close to nice shops and restaurants. Although it was "crowded" during the peak week we rented, the location of Norway house was rural and quite private.

A very good house

The house itself is excellent, and the location is great. The thing to remember is to bring your own hairdryer. That was the only thing missing from the house itself.
