A Relaxing Week at the Rio Mar Resort

There are many areas one can cover when doing a review, however, most readers are interested in the basics. So here goes...it was fantastic. Not the weather, the ocean, the rain forest, Old San Juan, El Morro or the wonderful reastaurants..that is a given. No, it was the property and the owner. The studio villa was beautifully decorated, located on the Fazio golf course at the resort. It was bright, cheery with a wonderful view of the rain forest from the balcony...and a perfect spot for breakfast or an evening cocktail. The owner provided information on nearby restaurants, food shops, bakeries (fantastic pasteries)and site seeing. When we arrived at the villa there was a six pack of beer in the refrigerator...how did she know we would need it after the trip through the airline terminal.
In short, the villa was wonderful, the location spectacular and the owner...well, she was a special hostess. I would definitely recommend this property. It was convenient to the rain forest, the beaches, San Juan.

Excellent vacation rental for family of 4

We stayed at this villa April 25-May1 09. There were 4 of us-- my husband, and 2 daughters aged 12 and 13.

The property was clean and well kept. The appliances are showing a little wear-- they are not brand new but they all worked just fine. Margie met us and gave us the keys, and also gave us a tour (on her golf cart) of the overall Rio mar complex. We experienced no mosquito problems (another reviewer mentioned them, we had no problems).

The villa had charm-- Margie comes and waters the plants etc. we had orchids and basil growing on the balcony. The balcony was great-- we ate out there often. There were plenty of towels provided, and plenty of bedding.

The villa also supplied an iron and ironing board, and a blow dryer (which I don't think are mentioned in the list of things). We had everythng we needed in the kitchen.

Sometimes we walked to the beach club (the beach club is the ocean-side pool) and sometimes we drove-- you can park right in front of the pool, so that worked out great. The kids also swam sometimes in the pool right outside the villa while I was making dinner. And the beach was terrific-- soft sand. We spent hours just jumping in the waves.

El Yunque (the rainforest) is very close-- only a few minutes drive. We went hiking there 2 days. We also did a day trip to Old San Juan, and another day trip to the Las Cabezas de san Juan nature reserve (and did the night-time kayak tour of the bioluminiscent bay-- I highly recommend that!)

Overall, this was a great vacation. I highly recommend this property and others like it in Rio Mar.

Great destination for a family or romantic getaway

We vacationed at this property in Dec 2008. The place was clean and as it was described in the description. There was a double be dfor my usband and I and we put our pack n play in the cupboard for our son. There were 2 couches that could be used as sleepers if you had other children. The owner (Margie) was fantastic, as was Richard who organized our stay. They were both only too willing to help out. The place was clean. The only down side were the mosquitoes - but welcome to Puerto Rico!The pool was pretty cold but it was refreshing. We went to the local beach (Loquillo Beach) a lot and it was magnificent. You should definitely hire a car so that you can get around and see things. If you are looking for local cuisine there were 2 great places that were cheap to eat at - one at the bottom of the street and one at the top of the street.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the positive feedback Michelle! It must have been the fresh Australian bllod that the mozzies were after! (not a common complain for Rio Mar). The 2 restaurants Michelle referred to are very handy..Richies is at the top of the street on the hill overlooking the area and Antojitos is at the bottom of the street near the route 3 junction-Owners Richie and Jorge are very friendly.)
