The Honeymoon Cottage, nestled in the Steinhatchee Landing Resort, is the perfect escape for couples. It is beautifully decorated with hardwood floors, a two-sided fireplace between the bedroom and double jacuzzi tub, and a luxurious king size bed. There are TVs in both the living room and bathroom, which features marble tile and granite counter tops. The galley kitchen is fully equipped and includes a washer/dryer. The cottage is comfortable and relaxing and sits in a quaint village on the Steinhatchee River where it feeds into Florida's Gulf Coast. You'll find plenty of good food, quirky shops and waterfront bars to browse. The Landing offers canoes, kayaks, and bikes for rent on site. Enjoy the beautiful swimming pool or cruise the river with gulf access close by. Bring your own boat, or you can rent a boat or charter a fishing trip at one of the nearby marinas. Stein-what?: Steinhatchee...pronounced STEENhatchee was named using the Native American words 'esteen hatchee' meaning river (hatchee) of man (esteen). At some point during the mapping process many years ago, an 'e' was changed to an 'I' but the pronunciation remained the same. Emphasis on STEEN-hatchee. Don't go down there pronouncing it 'Stine' or the locals will roll their eyes at you.

History of Steinhatchee: Now that you know how to pronounce it, you're ready for a little more history! Originally named Deadman Bay, the community name was changed to Stephensville when James Howard Stephens offered land for a post office in 1879. In 1931, the community was renamed Steinhatchee after the river.

Steinhatchee Falls: If you come into Steinhatchee turning onto 51 from 19/98, you will pass a marker for Steinhatchee Falls. Hernando de Soto crossed the Steinhatchee river at the 'Falls' in 1539. General Andrew Jackson also crossed at the Falls in 1818. There are markers and parking at the Falls and it is a favorite place of locals to go tubing.
