In Hawaiian ‘Hale Ka Makani Ala’ means House of the Fragrant Breeze. This name perfectly describes our fifteen acre home site as you experience the constant gentle trade winds will keep you cool and refreshed. The home sits atop Anini Vista, a secluded bluff overlooking Kalihiwai Bay, Kilauea Lighthouse and Anini Beach on the North Shore of Kauai. The cottage is nestled in a setting that gives you breathtaking and unforgettable views of the ocean and mountains in a jungle setting. The Jungle Cottage is approximately 500 square feet with a 120 square foot lanai. This private, wonderful island retreat begins as you journey down the meandering tropical lined flowered path loosing yourself in the magnificent view of the North Shore mountains where you can often see waterfalls.

Once inside the Jungle Cottage you can relax in the comfort of its simple elegance. The bamboo floors, vaulted ceilings and unique copper ceiling fans will make you feel right at home. The living room invites you to come in, kick off your shoes and be one with the environment. Lounge on the vintage designed bamboo sectional couch under a six foot hand crafted banana tree. You can read by the Tiffany style stained glass lamp, enjoy watching cable television, a DVD movie or relax and listen to music on the CD player. The kitchenette is nicely appointed and fully equipped with refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, blender and toaster. After preparing your light meal take a seat at the cozy antique Chinese dining set.

When you are ready to retire for the evening, take several steps up to the bedroom and bathroom. As you lie on the Balinese bed, you will have the same lush jungle and ocean views that you have when you are sitting in the living room. The Jungle Cottage provides for your comfort and is outfitted with a handmade Hawaiian quilt, sheets, bath and beach towels, and an iron and ironing board. After a day of sightseeing or just enjoying nearby Anini Beach Park (half mile away), come home and lounge on the lanai in teak chaise lounges and prepare a light snack on the BBQ grill or enjoy a hot shower under the stars in the fern and orchid lined shower.

I am very grateful for time I've spent at Mary and Neil's jungle cottage. Brings both a tear and a smile. I think every person who has stayed there comments on the views, the tranquility, the outdoor shower, the privacy, the serenity, beauty and the graciousness/generosity of our hosts. I concur with every review written. My decision to spend a month in Kauai at their jungle cottage has been one of my better decisions. Whether you are seeking solitude, or romance, life is little better spent at the cottage.

Amazing place to stay! My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Jungle Cottage and absolutely loved it. The outdoor shower alone made it completely worth it -- we both left convinced that we need to build one in our backyard! Our hosts hospitality and kindness was extraordinary, and the entire place was so clean and nice and lovely. Highly recommended!

The most romantic spot to which I've ever been

When planning a surprise engagement trip, I searched far and wide for the perfect place from which to enjoy our first trip to Kauai. One of the reasons I chose the Jungle Cottage was the unanimously glowing reviews. We're all too happy to add our voices to the choir. This little bungalow was so romantic, I chose to "pop the question" on its lanai. If you're super high-maintenance, you may prefer the manicured lawns of the nearby Princeville Hotel. For us, that resort was best accessed only for its sea baths and an excellent dinner. If a very private little house, peaking out of the jungle canopy at a breathtaking bay - complete with lighthouse, which pleasantly illuminates the cottage at night - sounds appealing to you, the Jungle Cottage is just perfect. Further, the Jungle Cottage is ideally located on Kauai's north shore. Finally, but perhaps most importantly, Mary & Neil are kind, generous, and interesting people, who are appropriately thankful for their little slice of paradise. We'll be back; and for longer next time!

If you want a place that is private, beautiful and where a lot of care has gone in to making your stay comfortable, then look no further.

We stayed in January and both of us battled the flu but what a wonderul place to be sick.

The outdoor shower at night. The early morning view of the lighthouse from the bed. The path from your car to the cottage. Unforgetable.
