Perfect week away from it all.

Our week here was just lovely and exactly what we were looking for - namely quiet, relaxed, and as far away as possible from any semblance of a crowd. We cooked at home the whole time, making use of both the gas and charcoal grills. We found the fish markets in the center of the island, which were great. Highly recommend the angel fish and the mahi; skip the lobster and the snapper (particularly if you're used to the East Coast varieties). We ate out only once, at a little local place, and were rather disappointed not only with the quality but with the price. Anyway, we were more than content to cook for ourselves in our beautiful kitchen. The little farmer's market at the end of the road (Wednesdays and Saturdays) had amazing produce, too. We made fresh salsa and salads all week. Yum!
Since we had the dog with us, we had to stick to the non-hotel beaches, which turned out great. Shoys was just lovely - we were literally the only people there the two times we went (late in the afternoon). By far my best day was our last - I went on a long early morning run out to Point Udall, then hiked down to the rocky beach to the south, headed west across the beach and over the hill to that GORGEOUS white sandy beach (which, of course, was completely empty). Had an early morning swim with the ocean all to myself - couldn't have been more picture perfect.
The house itself was lovely. Very comfortable, clean, and with ever possible amenity you could think of (e.g. ipod hook up for the stereo - which also had outdoor speakers so you could listen to your tunes whilst lounging in the pool, bug spray, pool floaties, beach umbrella, etc etc).
I was just there with my boyfriend (and our dog) and it was certainly a wonderful get away for the two of us and we very much enjoyed having all that space to ourselves, coming from our small Manhattan appartment. But the house really is ideally suited for larger groups - a whole family, or a group of friends, or a few couples. (And with more people going in on the cost, it'd be an absolute steal!)
The owners were also incredibly helpful and honest when we were considering all our options. Made it all completely hassle free, from start to finish. Couldn't be happier!
