Poponi Beach Cottage is on the historic two-acre Poponi property, where gently rolling grounds -- filled with coconut palms, bougainvillea, hibiscus and jasmine -- slope to the sparkling turquoise Atlantic. No steep stairs or rocky entrance at this pink-sand beach. Read or nap in the waterside hammock, lounges or shady cabana. Snorkel above the coral heads right off the beach. Or shed your shoes and meander for miles at low tide. Lodging is a spacious 2nd floor efficiency above a garage. It has an open floor plan, with sleeping, dining and sitting areas, nicely outfitted kitchen and full bath. Queen-sized bed with designer linens. Flat-screen TV with broadband cable. Internet access. Air conditioning plus a ceiling fan. Large deck with lounges, table and gas grill. 2nd enclosed shower outdoors.

Centrally located on the 110-mile-long island of Eleuthera, Poponi Beach Cottage is on Banks Road just outside the settlement of North Palmetto Point. The cottage sits on a knoll behind the main Poponi residence, which overlooks the exquisite turquoise Atlantic Ocean. Poponi's location, near Eleuthera's midpoint, is ideal for exploring the island, with miles of deserted pink-sand beach outside the door and many good restaurants nearby. It's just 20 minutes from Governor's Harbor airport, one of three airports on the island. Eleuthera is just a 20-minute flight from Nassau and 50 minutes from Fort Lauderdale.
