Some house details:
Our Eco-sustainable house has a lovely creek in the back and a 'Swiss family Robinson' feel. The upper loft and the front bedroom have the most Ocean sound at night. You can wander the beach at night under the moonlight and at dawn see the sun come up from the lanai.
The beach walk is amazing, looking for puka shells or fly-fishing off the reef. (But please, do not walk on the reefs as they are delicate and breaking them disturbs the ecosystem.)
On Tuesdays, their is a wonderful Farmers market, which has vegetables and fruits that are out of the world.
Our kitchen is equipped with dishes, pot and pans, a rice cooker, salad spinner, sushi roller, chopsticks and wasabi bowls.
The Hideaway has modern amenities: IPOD shuttle, DVD player, Stereo, free internet and local phone. A full shower and a deep bathtub. We also have a foot wash and outdoor shower at the bottom of the steps.
Soft linens and a washer/dryer so you never have to pack dirty clothes for the trip home.
Activities:
The Hideaway has a boogie board or 2, you can rent surfboards, snorkels and flippers from Hanalei Surf company, in the old school house in Hanalei. (see Bobo), In the Ching Young Center, Hanalei 'Strings and Things' offer movie rentals. In the drawer of the breakfast bar you will find the phone book, some discount tickets and info on horseback riding, ziplining, canoeing, golf and hiking. If you are going to hike you will probably want some 'tami's', they are a kind of bootie with the first toe split, army green, they are the best for walking in the mud of the Na Pali. You can find them reasonably priced at 'Foodland' or 'Kmart'.
Be sure to take sunblock and bug repellent if you are hiking.
Dining:
Hanalei also offers a Pizza shop, a local pie shop( Sunshine cafe), and Java Kai for a great latte and local pastries. I think the best cream pies I have ever had are from the pie shop in the center. It;s a local place that serves breakfast and makes pies. 7-11 am only. Call in your breakfast or it is a long wait.
Across the street we have a fabulous Mediterranean restaurant, skilled massage therapists and a Art gallery/gift shop/ coffee shop.
I know you will have and great time and come back to the Tropical Bamboo Hideaway
