A Charming and comfortable home!

Mayra's penthouse is a lovely apartment; spacious for two and comfortable for two children in the second bedroom. Personally, I like the fact that it is "homey", with attractive living room furnishings and a real dining room, and the two terraces and rooftop deck/lounge are a delight for those who love outdoor seating and fresh air. Charming art and decorations are throughout the apartment. There are other apartments at this complex for rent which we looked at, but none seemed to be furnished as generously or attractively. Cool breezes flow constantly through the house and there is NO need for the air conditioners. The location was ideal for us because we are independent travelers who like to be away from the noise and congestion of San Juan, and it was a great jumping- off point for trips to other parts of the island and trips to Vieques and offshore islands. Once you get used to the "coast road" (Route 187) into town, it is a fun, picturesque, and easy `15 minute ride to downtown San Juan. No need to drive highways or congested route 3! Don't worry about safety of this road, it is well-traveled day and night, just take your time driving with caution. Loiza's beach, along this road, is fantastic for swimmng, sheltered but with just enough waves to make it fun. Go further towards San Juan, and you find all the wonderful roadside and seaside restaurants and bars for local "cucina criolla'. The apartment is also very close to El Yunque, Luqillo Beach, and the fabulous Seven Seas Beach in Fajardo. When visiting Seven seas, end your day eating at Estacione , our best meal of the vacation.
All in all , the penthouse is a wonderful apartment and economical without sacrificing amenities; the grounds are very secure, and the pool areas pleasant. The beach however, is not suitable for swimming, too rough in the wintertime, but so many sheltered beaches are within an easy drive that this is not a terrible drawback. The other thing to note, is that the PH is on the highest level, which involves three level staircase (no elevator). Those with mobility problems need to be aware of this. We liked Mayra's house so much we are coming back in only 8 weeks from now for another stay! Karen And Bruce of Chicago.
