The pictures do not do this place justice. While we were down there, we did not see a nicer place that we could have stayed. We are more than completely satisfied with everything, and everybody that we dealt with in renting this condo. I would highly recommend this condo for the family, or two couples + kids, who want a quiet vacation in a safe place, and don't need a lot of activities to entertain them.
This is our second time renting a condo through HomeAway, and both experiences have surpassed my expectations. I will give a brief highlight of our trip with tips.
Flew into Punta Cana rented a car and drove to Juan Dolio, 140 km. 2 1/2 hrs. Driving in the country is fine, driving through the two cities was bad, survival of the fittest. But, did make it there and back without an accident. There is a ring road around San Pedro. Try to find a map before you go, hard to find down there. Went to Santa Damingo one day, not bad traffic if you follow the coastal road to the Colonial Area (tourist area).
The condo itself was very clean, big, well decorated, on the front corner of the building, with a wrap around view, huge windows that open if desired, a/c, across a sleepy street to the beach. The staff at the Starfish (3 building resort) was exceptional. 24 hr. security at the front door, at the gate into the parking lot, and at the beach. We left our beach stuff, bags, etc., everyday while we went for beach walks, felt completely safe, nothing every touched. The beach club area was the nicest beach along the whole area that we walked. Sand bottom swimming area, Was looking at a Condo at a golf resort in the area, before we decided on this one, saw their beach club, no where near as nice the Starfish. I believe that these condos are mainly weekend homes for well off Dominicans, so during the week you will have the place to yourself. You can be catered to as much as you want on the beach with service from the bar, with meals around the pool, or on the beach, or on the beautiful pier style lounge, rest. that only members may use, which would be you, as renters of this condo.
The only draw back of Juan Dolio is that we did not find many things to do. If you want to shop for groc., you pretty well had to go back to San Pedro.
People were very friendly, if you don't know spanish, buy a little pocket translation book. Good restaraunt next door. Pablo had a good little tips sheet to reference. Pablo,Thank you very much for a wonderful vac.
Owner's Response: Club Hemingway / Starfish Resorts is one of the area's most desirable locations. They continue to develope and are adding three Tennis Courts, a Members Club with a "Tapas" style restaurant, A Pizza/Hamburger shop designed with kids in mind, and one more swiming pool. These all should be ready by April of this year (2008).
