Travel on Mt. Desert Island / Downtown Activities: The Island Explorer is a free bus service running fixed schedules for 7 different routes on MDI in the summer months. One of those routes has a stop just across the MDI bridge in Trenton. Some buses have bike transport. This wonderful, convenient, congestion-reducing service is provided in large part by a grant from the LL Bean Company (the original store located in Freeport, Maine, north of Portland, is open 24 hours in case you are traveling from that direction. They also have an outlet store in Ellsworth, Maine, on the road to Bar Harbor. Downtown Bar Harbor. Beyond the many interesting stores and restaurants and sights downtown, do enjoy one of the various boat trips out of Frenchman Bay. One of our favorites: Lulu's Lobster Boat with Capt. John. Very educational and enjoyable including a trip around the local seal haven and some lobster trap stops along the way. Also, enjoy cruise ship watching in Frenchman Bay as you stroll along the Shore Path or relax on a bench.

Acadia Park Ranger Talks and Walks: Acadia park ranger talks or walks: There are many of these daily and they are very enjoyable and informative. The topics range from geology to carriage trails to animals and birds of Acadia to history, such as the fire of 1947, to many different seascape or tidal pool topics. There is also a topic and slide show presented every evening at Blackwoods Camp and a hawk watch on Cadillac Summit at the appropriate season. We have found the rangers who present topics to be very dedicated to their subject matter. Acadia: In addition to 44 miles of carriage trails, there are many opportunities for walks and bike rides of varying distances, and mountain hikes of varying degrees of challenge and effort with the ultimate probably being Precipice Trail. There are also Echo and Eagle Lakes and Sand Beach for water activities. Jordan Pond: Don't miss the experience of coming here for the tradition of tea and popovers in the afternoon. Relax and enjoy the beautiful view.

Golf on MDI - a Special Pleasure: Kebo Valley Golf Club -- very near Eden Center Cottage and a real treat and challenge to play. 8th oldest course in the US. It began as a race track and the terrain of the track is evident in the layout of the holes closest to the clubhouse. With the beauty and looming presence of Cadillac Mountain many greens have unexpected breaks and none more surprising so than the 17th hole. Also, from the vast sloped waste bunker of the 17th hole legend says President Taft took 27 strokes to escape. No matter how you play, unfailingly you will enjoy the day. Northeast Harbor Golf Course -- a narrow, very scenic course threading through a hilly and wooded terrain on many holes. Short in length but challenging and very enjoyable for a strategy of positional golf. Causeway Club -- Southwest Harbor. This is a pleasant, enjoyable, relatively flat 9 hole course with some water views. It does have a several very challenging holes and is recommended for a leisurely walk.

Lovely Cottage, Lovely Location

FansOfAcadia Ivoryton, CT
Review Submitted: November 12, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2007
This was our 5th year of vacationing on Mt.Desert and our first time in the middle of BH village. Our stay at Eden Center Cottage was everything the listing promised and more. There were 5 adults and 2 kids in our party and there was plenty of room for us all. The beds were very comfortable and we all loved the different themes to every room. The front porch became the breakfast area and jigsaw puzzle center of the house and saw a lot of activity. Rebecca had left us a wealth of current material on everything that was going on on the island. There were restaurant menus, Acadia info, shopping ideas...there was nothing lacking to complete our days. The chief pleasure of the location was that we could easily walk to everything the village had to offerThe week flew by.

Great House and Location

Review Submitted: November 10, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
We just completed our first visit to Bar Harbor and this house was perfect for our group. We ranged in age from 9 to 70 and everyone agreed the place was ideal. Very tastefully renovated with high end finishes everywhere. The location is perfect- within walking distance to all downtown amenities. If we have the good fortune to visit Bar Harbor in the future, we will definitely rent this property again. The owners are very responsive and helpful in planning your trip as well.

Wonderful place to stay!

kzg123 Maryland
Review Submitted: September 27, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We spent the last two weeks of September at Eden Cottage, and everything was wonderful. The house was fully stocked with everything you could need. It was charming, relaxing, and perfectly located. We especially loved the light and airy front porch with its abundance of comfortable seating, and sliding glass windows that opened to screens on a warm day, or could be closed in the evening to keep the porch a bit cozier. Coming back to the well stocked pantry and kitchen to cook dinner made the evenings feel like home.

We could walk to everything in Bar Harbor - shops, restaurants, the Village Green, the grocery store, the shore path, sight seeing boat tours, and the sand bar you can hike across at low tide to Bar Island. We never got in the car for a single thing we wanted to do in town. It was only a short drive to all of the scenic splendor of Acadia National Park, as well.

There is enough in the park to keep you busy for weeks on end, but our highlights were Sand Beach, just driving the park loop road, exploring the top of Cadillac Mountain, visiting the Jordan Pond House for a delicious lunch on the lawn, and actually catching Thunder Hole thundering, for once (try it about two hours before high tide).

If you are feeling like exploring, there are many wonderful things to visit on the other side of the island, as well. Down past Southwest Harbor is Seawall, which has picnic tables, bathrooms, a beautiful rocky beach, and is a great spot for tidepool exploration at low tide. The short walk to Wonderland just past Seawall is also beautiful, and well worth doing. The beautiful beach at Seal Harbor is another favorite. The water always seems a bit warmer there, and it is a beautiful shallow sandy beach with just enough rocks and shells to make finding a treasure a sure thing. All in all, Eden Center Cottage was the perfect jumping off point for a great family vacation, and we look forward to returning!

Home away from Home!

Family from Long Island Levittown, New York
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My family (6 adults 1 infant) spent the week of July 4th at this lovely home in Bar Harbor. It literally felt like someone just packed up their clothes and left their home ready for our use. There was not one thing that we needed during the week that was not found at the house! The property was in excellent condition upon our arrival--two washer and dryers made the week with infant very easy.
A fully stocked pantry eliminated the need for that first day trip to grocery store for essentials. The owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable--even including travel coffee mugs for morning walks along the shore!!! Plan on returning with family as even with a full week we were not able to cover all the fun things in Bar Harbor and Arcadia!!

Felt like HOME

hopebw Macon, GA
Review Submitted: June 22, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The photos on this website hardly do this home justice. It is absolutely perfect and was a wonderful place for our family of 10 to spend a week together. Everyone from the 1 year old to the 68 year old had a great time and there was nothing we needed that couldn't be found in the house. My Mother kept saying, "I feel like we've just swapped houses for a week". The house is super clean and it was easy for our large family to keep up with the laundry since they have two sets of washer/dryers. Rebecca and Jerry are so nice and took excellent care of us. Even though we've never met, I feel as though we're friends.

Bar Harbor is lovely and we particularly enjoyed going out on Lulu's Lobster Boat. The kids really got a kick out of touching the lobsters and crabs. Captain John was so funny and informative. He has the gift of making learning fun. We loved McKay's and others in my party said Havana was fabulous. There's a little bakery around the corner, Morning , that has delicious chocolate iced cake and blueberry muffins along with every other imaginable pastry/bread. Everyone raves about the popovers and jam at Jordan Pond House. I have to agree that they were delicious and we were there on such a lovely day that it made it even better. We took the carriage tour through the park with a stop at Jordan Pond House. I think next time I'd take the longer carriage tour and do Jordan Pond on my own. It seemed a very expensive way to get too and from the house and the guide didn't talk much along the way. I was expecting a talk of some sort and was only treated with a few pleasentries. Our kids loved the horses though. The shops in town are so delightful and we especially enjoyed looking in the Pretty Marsh gallery. Sue is just great and very friendly and you might even see her "on the block" some since she lives next door. I'm still trying to narrow my decision down to just one of the D'Alessio giclees in her store. I may have to go with two as they were all so wonderful.

I would send everyone I know to Eden Center! It is just perfect and in a great location. We loved Bar Harbor so much my husband came home and started looking at job postings in the area. You won't be disappointed!
