Wonderful place for family!

We loved Dawnwood. The house and setting is prettier than the pictures suggest. It is elegant without being fussy, and feels like a lived-in house, rather than a sterile rental property. There are lots of kids' toys to play with, and lots of space to run around. The caretaker was most helpful, the vegetables and figs delicious. The house has a DSL connection, which was crucial to several adults in the family; there is no cable, but we did not particularly care about that and did not watch TV. There is a DVD player. There are several good restaurants within about a half-hour driving distance, but we mostly chose to cook at the house. The Betterton beach is a 5 minute drive away -- it is small, but pretty, and not particularly crowded. Good swimming - no currents and gentle drop off. The pool at the house is beautiful and gets sun pretty much all day, with shade at the back -- there are lots of pool toys. This area remains very rural -- general store in Still Pond (about a mile and a half away) looks circa 1950 and has very little in the way of food -- nearest supermarket/coffee shop/movie theatre/etc. is in Chestertown about 30 minutes away. This is a great place to get away from it all and be in the country, and/or as a base for exploring the Bay with canoe trips, kayaking, or sailing nearby in Chestertown and Rock Hall.

Owner's Response: That was a lovely review above - and we are so grateful for those kind words. One clarification though is that while the nearest town may feel like 30 minutes away, it's actually only 8 - 9 miles from our door to the town and big supermarket, which on these rural roads with 50mph speed limit, is more like 12-15 mins. away. The drive is very beautiful - all big farms with many historic farmhouses from the 19th and even 18th century.
