PORTUGAL THE ALGARVE ON YOUR DOOR STEP:
Ayamonte is the nearest town from Isla Canela. About a ten minute drive. The best bit about Ayamonte is you have to park on the outside of the town and walk through the cobbled roads and winding streets full of shops (No multiples here). There are cafes, tapas bars, restaurants and a fabulous indoor food market selling local fresh meat, poultry, fruit , veg and the catch of the day. The area is famous for its strawberries, and they are fantastic! as is all the food produce sold in this market. There are two palm tree squares where there always seems to be some sort of local activity going on either festive or religious. They are the main meeting place for locals. There are some very trendy clothes shops for men and women and also great leather shops and a few exceptional shoe shops. There are also shops that sell lovely gifts for you to bring back to your home in England. There is also a market every Saturday morning. Ayamonte has a Tourist information centre for you to visit.
Golf:
Opened in 1993, ISLA CANELA GOLF CLUB offers an entertaining round of golf for those visiting the Western corner of Andalucia. The course was designed by Juan Catarineu, and has been skillfully and sympathetically built into the surrounding nature reserve. The dunes of the natural landscape supply the gentle undulations as golfers attempt to negotiate the numerous lakes that are entwined in the layout.
Against the backdrop of the olive, orange and eucalyptus trees that characterise the estate, Isla Canela is a beautiful spot to enjoy a game of golf during your golf holiday in Andalucia
ISLANTILLA GOLF COURSE, which since its inception in 1992 has established a reputation as one of the best courses in Western Andalucia
The excellent layout is a regular on the Challenge Tour, but the highlight for Islantilla came in 1995 when it was chosen to welcome the PGA European Tour's best for the Turespana Masters, won by Alex Cejka. This rise to prominence was underlined in the year 2000, when the respected publication, Golf Digest, included Islantilla in its list of Europe's top 100.
The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops, so the resultant combinations provide welcome variety. Known as the Yellow, Green and Blue courses, all three afford golfers amazing sea views, set against the backdrop of the beautiful pine forest that adorns the cliff-top landscape. This spectacular location makes for a truly memorable golf experience & willLchallenge even the best player
