This was our sixth visit to the city, so we know it well, and were looking for an apartment that was actually a pleasure to stay in, and that we could actually use ie. We cook 'in' and don't eat out, so we needed local, convenient, and reasonably priced shopping, and a well equipped and decent kitchen. And Quiet.
The Florence penthouse apartment provided all of these. It is a 5 minute walk from Porta Romana. 20 minutes to the river. 25 minutes to the Uffizi or Duomo. On good bus lines right inside Porta Romana. If you want wild night life or a wide selection of restaurants within a 5 minute walk , you might want to be closer in to the city center. We didn't, and found the quiet an absolute haven after being in the city all day. The apartment is well equipped,if a bit spartan, and the terraces are both lovely. There is plenty of natural light in all rooms and the views are charming. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The two singles really are 2 singles in the 2nd bedroom. There was ample hanging room, hangers etc. The kitchen is separate from the living room, which is also a plus. The appliances are new and all worked well. The bathroom is large and very nice, with a shower attachment over the bathtub. The only quibble would be the hot water supply. In the morning, to be blunt, it's non-existent. We assumed that the building is on one supply, and that while everyone was getting ready for work, it simply ran out. A bath or shower in the afternoon is no problem. There are shops at the bottom of the street (open in the AM and late aft. 3 min walk) and supermarket inside Romana, about 10 minute walk. The building is on a hill and there are 5 flights of stairs up to the penthouse and no lift - again, not a problem for us, but might be for others. The whole apartment was pristinely clean, and supplied with ample towels, decent soap etc. Tommaso, whom we dealt with for the rental, could not have been more helpful.
