Maison de Lumière is located in a region of groves of walnut and chestnut trees, juniper and vine clad hillsides and meandering rivers characterising the Lot Valley.Panaoramic vistas from hilltop villages such as St Cirq Lapopie perched 100 metres above the river Lot. Beautiful bastides built on hills for easy defence in the times of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the 100 years war. Villages that remain unchanged - some were actually built by the English. These attractive villages and others have excellent markets with fresh seasonal foods, little bars and restaurants.Chateaux galore, some ruins, others boasting first class restaurants or acting as spectacular venus for summer festivals. Notes: The elderly or infirm are more than welcome, however, I would like to point out there are many steps to the pool. Three steps to the ground floor bedroom with a bathroom/toilet on same level. All other areas flat. Smoking is permitted outside but not inside. Bicycles can be hired locally, but due to our hillside location the roads are steep so rather unsuitable in the immediate vicinity for cycling unless you are in serious training! A PS2 is available along with some games, there is also a computer for games. The land around the property is not fenced and deer visit regulary. Mid-term cleaning/linen change 65 euros per session; please let us know if you will require this service. No charge for end of stay cleaning but we ask for all rubbish to be disposed of. Any extra cleaning by arrangement. The swimming pool is alarmed (reg standards) however, any system is a poor alternative to a responsible adult being with young children at all times.

Holidaying at Pech Gris.: You won't want to leave Maison de Lumière too often to explore the local region! A stunning hillside home with spectacular views from two terraces and the swimming pool. Spacious, light and airy accommodation offering a secluded, rural setting. The living room; dining area and ground floor bedroom all have large sliding glass doors opening onto the semi covered terrace/garden with long views across the valley. The terraces are ideal for dining on summer evenings, one with barbecue - with seating for 10 - to drink wine and watch the sun go down in wonderfully peaceful, calm surroundings. Sit around the pool watching the buzzards soar whilst enjoying the tranquil setting and still only five minutes drive from the market town of Prayssac where all amenities can be found - pavement cafés; restaurants; boutiques;cinema; sports facilities; supermarkets; chemists all within easy reach. The main town of The Lot - Cahors, is 40 minutes drive. Sport and leisure activites all within easy reach.

Markets and Fairs: Shops, supermarkets and weekly produce markets are at Puy l'Evêque (9km) and Prayssac (4km). Visit Cahors, our nearest main town, with the Pont Valentre and old quarters; Cahors Blues & Jazz Festival in July. The Lot has charming villages and hidden treasures, frescoed churches, natural springs and old washing stones, dinosaur footprints, small museums and local craftsmen. Les Arques and the Zadkine museum; or the châteaux of Biron and Bonaguil, imposing hilltop castles; Monflanquin, Monpazier and other bastides with arcaded squares (in neighbouring Lot-et-Garonne & Dordogne). In July and August villages organise evening markets with regional specialties and in summer there are many wine fairs and music festivals. Discover the wine of Cahors with wine tasting at a friendly vineyard. Toulouse is the nearest main airport, but Bergerac is served by Ryanair and other low cost airlines.

Winter in the Lot Valley: Maison de Lumière is available for rental all year round. Autumn and winter are very enjoyable months in the Lot. The house is fully centrally heated by under floor gas heating plus a wood burning insert where the popluar 'grillades' can be cooked. The winters are short and less damp and windy than northern Europe. Hoare frosts are spectacular in January and February bringing out the photographers and artists. Numerous winter markets and fairs add to that lovely special atmosphere.

A little paradise on a hillside

The photos showing the views over the valley were a huge plus and what helped us choose this property for our two weeks' holiday last May; we are really pleased we did as in reality the views are just spectacular and added a special dimension to our stay.
The house is so comfortable, well equipped, clean, light and spacious. Plenty to do in the local area and great places to eat at affordable prices. Friendly locals and neighbours made our stay easy and most enjoyable. We'll stay again and recommend it highly. Prayssac is a delightful town, the surrounding villages and countryside have a great deal to offer allowing us to experience a taste of real French country life. We sampled so many local dishes and tasted fine wines and cheeses mostly produced in authentic French style from age old traditions and recipes. Good for body and soul; an ideal change from our usual fraught daily routines. We returned home feeling rested, recharged and peaceful. Thank you so much.

We stayed here last summer (July) and it is fabulous. I would strongly recommend it. Everything about this place and the surrounding area is absolutely wonderful.

The villa is on the brow of a small hill (what South Africans call a Kopje) with stunning views across the Lot Valley.

The local environment is beautiful with numerous vineyards tucked in the twists and turns of the river Lot. The local ‘black’ Cahors wine is outstanding and must be sampled (several times).

The accommodation is immaculately clean with good décor. The position makes it extremely quiet, without light pollution. I slept like a log every night. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. I loved the mezzanine landing over the lounge. Being a non-French speaker with the Sky telly meant we could still watch favourite programs and keep up to date with British news and sport.

There is a wide choice of walks nearby accessible from the house in extensive woodland. The local town of Prayssac is delightful with good restaurants, great bars and cafes. It has a busy market on Fridays well worth a visit. The locals actually changed my opinion on how I had previously viewed the French, coming over to us as friendly, extremely welcoming and good fun.

The only thing which must be take into consideration is, I would strongly recommend anybody staying here having their own vehicle.
