Photos and Description of this Lake Placid holiday house Four bed rooms and four bath rooms maximum eight guests.

Fewer than twelve historic houses remain from the original Lake Placid Club. All the houses have names and this house, Juniper, was faithfully restored by an architect in 2005. The house is designed to take full advantage of the old growth forest setting with each of the four bedrooms having a screened in porch and a different forest view. Because the house has high speed wireless Internet service one can sit on any porch with a lap top. The cathedral ceiling living room has a large stone fire place, books, games, TV and DVD/VCR player. Three of the four bedrooms are a suite with a bedroom, bathroom and porch as one unit. The fourth bedroom has a porch with the bathroom next door; however, that bathroom has the advantage of a two person whirlpool tub. In addition to the tub, there is a very therapeutic infrared sauna. Although secluded, the house is a short walk to Mirror Lake and the Town of Lake Placid.

A two minute walk takes one to 45 holes on three different golf courses designed by Scotsmen for the original Lake Placid Club. Those same two minutes will get you 15 clay and hard surface tennis courts. Three minute's walk will get you to a private beach on Mirror Lake. The golf courses are criss-crossed with marked hiking trails which take one up into the mountains. In the winter those same golf courses and hiking trails are groomed for cross country skiing. The Olympic mountain, Whiteface, is a 15 minute drive. For the less athletic, the shops, outlet stores, museums, movie theaters and restaurants of Lake Placid are a five minute walk. If one continues through the town and around Mirror Lake, those two plus miles also afford some bragging rights. The two winter Olympics that were held in Lake Placid are never far from site or mind. Many of the 1980 Olympic facilities are still in use. One is able to watch ski jumping, ice skating or bobsledding in the winter or the summer!

To add some additional history to the property, bordering the yard, but now filled in with trees, is the original 100 year old toboggan run of the Lake Placid Club. Some of the oldest and most beautiful trees can be flood lit at night if one chooses.

Terrific family house!

lovelakeplacid Fairfield, CT
Review Submitted: February 5, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
"We stayed here during the summer. We had 2 families (4 adults and 4 young boys) in our party and this house suited us perfectly. It has 2 levels and there was enough space so that no one ever felt cramped. There are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, which was plenty for the number in our party. What we found very convenient is the fact that we rarely had to use the car. Restaurants, golfing, tennis, boating, hiking, cycling, swimming, shopping are all within walking distance. There is a beautiful, scenic lake (Mirror Lake) that is just a stone's throw away from the house. When you stay at this house, you get beach privileges on the lake and we loved being on the beach, enjoying the beautiful view and watching our kids swim. If you like to walk, there is a paved path around the lake (that also goes through the town of Lake Placid) that is approximately 2.5 miles. If you do want to get in your car, there's a tremendous amount to do in the local area, including hiking, taking the cable car up Whiteface Mountain, watching ski jumpers at the Olympic Jumping Complex, mini golf, High Falls Gorge, and much more. The house itself is well appointed and very clean. It has all the kitchen facilities you might need, as well as washer/dryer and wireless access. Highly recommended for either summer or winter vacation. Also a great house for kids and families. "

MIXED REVIEW

NIXIT Altamont, NY, USA
Review Submitted: March 8, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
Beautiful house, setting, and location to village, however, there were also many disappointments.

1. Not told that the 4th bedroom is located in the basement accessed by a steep metal spiral staircase. It was very difficult to block access to the stairs so the toddlers would not climb over and fall down the stairs. The stairs should have been mentioned in the description of the hose.

2. Bedrooms had valances but no drapes to draw. The house sits on the edge of the road used by neighbors, not a busy road but there is traffic. It is especially disconcerting at night when the lights are turned on and there is no privacy.

3. In three out of the four bedrooms, towels and bedding smelled very musty and had to be laundered before use.

4. Checkout time is at 10 a.m. We had a party of eight and knew it would be very difficult to vacuum, mop, and wash all of the linens by checkout time. Contact by e-mail was made with the owner during our stay re: cleaning procedures and if there was someone who came in to do the linen (the dryer is old and it took a very lengthy time to throughly dry full loads) and was told "that the house was not a hotel and we were expected to leave it as we found it." We absolutely had no intention of not cleaning it and I was offended by the tone of the owner's e--mail reply. More information should be provided about the available cleaning service.

5. We will definitely use Home Away in the future but will definitely not recommend houses owned by or rent from the present owner again.
Owner's Response: As an owner who tries to provide the best possible lodging to his guests, I feel obligated to respond to this review. I will follow the same order.
1. In the description of the house it is mentioned that one of the bedrooms is on a lower floor. The type of stairs is not mentioned and perhaps I should add that.
2. There is only one house on the road beyond ours so there is very little traffic. The two bedrooms on the road side have venetian blinds. The two bedrooms with "no drapes to draw" do have curtains to mid-window and look into a forest.
3. I will certainly check with my cleaning lady; however, it is a fact that all linens are washed as a matter of course after each guest's stay.
4. This was a one week rental of our second home which is thoroughly cleaned before and after it is occupied. Much time has passed, but as I recall, I was contacted by this guest the day she arrived asking if there would be daily maid service. I was somewhat surprised by the request and I may have responded that our home was not a hotel and I may have responded that, generally speaking, the house was expected to be left the way it was found. By that I meant, that there should be no unusual wear, tear or dirt. I did not mean that the guests were expected to clean the house. This was a serious misunderstanding which I regret but had little opportunity to rectify because the first time I am hearing of it is in this review. Unquestionably, all the cleaning that the guests did before they left I have carried out by my staff after every guest departs. I regret that misunderstanding.
5. I am sorry the clothes dryer was slow. It is certainly not old. It is a two-year-old General Electric.

Great Vacation Home

Review Submitted: March 6, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
7 of us spent a long weekend in lake placid for a Hockey Tournament during January. We had a wonderful time in Lake Placid and enjoyed our stay at Juniper. Juniper is a very warm and comfortable home nestled away in a wooded community a short drive or moderate walk to Main Street. After a snow storm, it was an adventure getting to the home, however once there, we found plenty of room for our group to relax in the living room. Bedrooms are seperated enough so that you can relax/take a nap in a bedroom without being disturbed by activity in the main living area. Our group had a great time at Juniper and would highly recommend a stay.

Bill's description is entirely accurate. As you can see in the photos, the home is well kept and appears recently updated.
