Holiday Villa in Poitou-Charentes, France

Golfer John Lytham, Lancs
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
What can I say? Absolutely fantastic, the actual farmhouse was superb, very very comfortable, decor was homely/french country style, we felt at home straight away. Enough rooms and space so 3 families were not on top of each other, all very clean and well kept. Cleaner provided came in every other day and was very helpful with shopping and anything we needed, although everything was there except food which was local.
Close drive to many good restaurants, chateau's, vineyards which have superb wines at really good prices.
I played Golf at one truly amazing golf club, Golf de Royan which is now one of my favourite courses and it was only 30 euro's.
We then ate in Royan, small seaside resort with lots of life, bars and miles of sandy beach's to work up an appetite, also some good shops there for women to keep themselves busy.
The Gironde estuary is nearby, Port Maubert and Mortagne which has a yacht marina and half a dozen good restaurant is a must.
This area is truly wild and great to explore with kids, like english holidays used to be, but with sun. We also went to Bordeaux but only spent one day there, Bordeaux looked a fantastic city, like Paris but easier to get round and a lot cleaner, I wish we had spent at least 2/3 days there, but there were so many things to do in the whole holiday we just didnt have time to cover everything and will do this when we go back.
Everyone loved the place from the kids who were in the swimming pool and playing in the gardens all the time, to the adults who wanted a peaceful room to read (there were so many books there) or catch up on our lives. The adults went for endless walks from the farmhouse without any fears or worries from cars racing around, very peaceful. You do need a car to explore everything and my only issue was I dont think 7 days were enough.

A heavenly farmhouse in the most idyllic setting!

pjp09 Cheshire
Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
One of our best trips to France, this beautiful old farmhouse, which has been superbly renovated and chicly styled was simply gorgeous. The setting is idyllic with rolling countryside and light that has that artistic feel which makes you think you should be painting or drawing the landscape. The house has fantastic facilities and is of very generous proportions, it is also full of character, much effort has been made to preserve and promote the ancient features. The rooms have that sense of individuality and attention to detail.

The gardens are large and have been well designed, they were in full bloom during our stay, the terraces are lovely, finished with pots and pots of geraniums. The pool is wonderful, personally I love swimming pools, and this is a great one, brilliant size for swimming or for just lounging by and reading ones book with your feet in the water. The terraces and pool areas are completed with Moroccan style tables and chair and there are plenty of sun-loungers.

The whole place is superb, well maintained and cared for, very clean, we had excellent customer experience from start to finnish, everything we needed was there and it was all very tasteful too.

We would definitely book this property again and recommend to friends and family, in fact already have done so!

The area itself is stunning, most importantly the bakery is only a two minute drive away, (superb croissants, pan and cakes). Lots of lovely villages in the area too. Bordeaux is not very far for a day out and is full of great restaurants. Royan should also be visited, has a lovely market, pretty beaches and delicious seafood restaurants. Naturally there are many many amazing chateaus all round for the tasting and buying of wine. St Emilion is a must visit ancient town, where we spent a lovely afternoon.

We only had a short break - 5 days - at the end of which we didn't want to leave. Would consider at least 2 weeks next time, in fact you would be very tempted to stay for the whole summer! It is perfect.

Characterful French Farmhouse

Moia Glasgow
Review Submitted: January 13, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
I have enjoyed staying at this charming farmhouse many times and in different seasons. The elegant main sitting room is wonderfully cosy in autumn when the log fires are lit. The kitchen is welcoming and well stocked. Every possible appliance is supplied. Each of the bedrooms is decorated in a slightly different way, yet each feels French. The bathrooms are exquisite, particularly the large, mosaic lined wet room.
Throughout the house feels spacious and airy, which is important when the temperature soars. The indoor space is wonderful, yet it is the outdoor space that I enjoy the most. I always return home feeling rested and relaxed. There are many French doors leading onto terraces set at different points around the house for maximum utilization of sunlight, and perfect for dining al fresco. The garden is well tended and restful. A dip in the pool on a hot day is the ideal way to cool down. As I write this I can conjure an image of the gently undulating countryside because I have looked up from my book (the one I am reading from the comfort of a sun lounger) and gazed at it so often. I love to take long walks in the countryside, ideally with a friend; it is a great time to chat.
There are several good restaurants nearby. Seafood dishes are varied and fabulous. Excellent coq-au-vin is served in small rustic restaurants along the waterfront of the Gironde estuary. Medieval market towns, with castles and ramparts, can be explored at a leisurely pace. For more serious shopping a visit to Bordeaux should fit the bill. If pampering is what you require then head for the Caudalie health spa. I spent a splendid day there sampling a range of treatments, with a light lunch in their Japanese themed garden restaurant.
This delightful farmhouse provides first class accommodation in a beautiful, private setting and offers the opportunity to spend all of your time in the countryside relaxing or to explore authentic, unspoilt France or a bit of both.
