Our 17th Century Perigordian estate 'Cantegrive' is situated on 20 hectares/50 acres of forest and pasture on a hillside with sweeping views, just one of two properties on a small country lane that ends in a cul-de-sac about 3/4 mi (1 km) past the house. The tranquil location offers peace, quiet and privacy. Shops, sites and services are, however, a short drive away. American and Finnish nationals, we live on site together with our horses and dog. Both houses are very spacious with exceptionally well equipped kitchens, fireplaces and dining areas. Bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor. Terracotta floor tiles, exposed oak beams, antique and pine furniture provide a welcome home feeling. Around the house are spacious shaded lawns and terraces with teak garden furniture. Bar-b-q grills, badminton and petanque games are available. Our large 20x50 ft (8x18m) landscaped pool area is fenced and equipped with an alarm system. For your vehicles, there is a covered carport.

Adjacent to La Grande Maison, this former sheep barn is cozy but spacious (100 sq.m./1100 sq. ft) containing 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, tiled with both tub & shower. Nicely renovated with pine & wicker furnishings and scatter rugs throughout. Terra cotta floor tiles downstairs, wooden floors upstairs in bedrooms/bathroom. Lovely exposed oak beams! The house has its terrace and lawns with teak garden furniture, sun umbrellas, and bar-b-q grill. There is a separate badminton court and petanque games are available. There is a covered carport available for your vehicle apart from the house and play areas.

Cantegrive is midway between Bergerac and Sarlat on a small country lane that ends in a cul-de-sac about 1 mile past our house. Peaceful, quiet, private with fabulous views from our hilltop location. Sites, shopping and services are near by in Lalinde (8km/5 mi)and Beaumont-du-Perigord (5km/3mi) The Dordogne area, known as Périgord since Medieval times, is a land of green valleys, charming honey colored villages perching on forested hillsides, lazy meandering rivers - a feast for the eye. Early man has left the region with some of Europe's oldest art treasures, the 20,000-year-old cave paintings of Lascaux near Montignac, Font de Gaume near Les Eyzies and many others. Lively farmers' markets offer fresh produce, cheeses, wine, homemade specialties. St. Emilion and Bordeaux vineyards are a short drive away. The Bergerac area next door has tasty red, white and rosé wines. Outdoor enthusiasts have a choice of activities from canoeing and biking to walking and wild life viewing.

Our peaceful setting is a nature lover's dream, but you will find shops and sites close by. Mid way between Sarlat and Bergerac on the south side of the Dordogne river, our nearest towns are St Avit Senieur (population 300) and Beaumont du Perigord (population 2000), quaint medieval Bastide villages only 3 miles/5 kms away. Prehistoric caves including Lascaux II await your explorations. Most of the area chateaux are open to the public. St Emilion's famous vineyards are an hour's drive away. Each town has its daily market offering fresh produce, bread, cheese and of course the foie gras and black truffles our area is famous for. Cozy restaurants offer local cuisine at prices kind to your budget.
