Little Loon Cottage is an adorable cottage with lots of charm built in 1930 right on the water’s edge. Cottage is tucked into the woods and is nicely situated on a semi-private half-acre lot with 80’ of waterfront and a dock. A nature-lovers paradise – listen to the loons & enjoy gorgeous views from the deck. Relax w/ a good book or family & friends & get away from it all! 1st fl has an updated kitchen, bath, dining rm, and living rm with timber-beam ceiling. 2nd fl has 2 bedrooms plus a loft (2 queen beds + 2 twin beds). Master bdrm has a ceiling fan and a large closet. The house has a cottage feel – very cute and tastefully decorated (Maine Cottage/shabby-chic). Seating for 6 for eating outdoors on the deck; there is also a small dining room for rainy days. Every room except the bathroom and loft sleeping area has views of the lake. There is a dock with a ladder & easy access to the water. Pillows, blankets and comforters are provided. Please bring your own sheets and towels.

15 min from Waterville, 30 min from Augusta, 1 hr from Portland and Bangor, 2 hrs from Portsmouth and Acadia/Bar Harbor, 3 hrs from Boston. China Lake boasts a large nature preserve and reservoir as well as a large area of the lake that is available for water skiing and other activities. Fishing is excellent and there is a public boat launch. Boat rentals are available nearby. Several golf courses are within 30 minutes. Belfast is the closest coastal town (40 minutes) with numerous restaurants and unique gift shops and ocean kayaking. North from there along Rte 1 to Searsport are many antique stores and flea markets. South along Rte 1 is Lincolnville, with its open beach for ocean swimming. Pemaquid Lighthouse and New Harbor for lobster are family favorites. Camden/Rockport is a 50 min drive and Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park is a doable day trip at 2 hrs.

Additional information about rental rates

  • 1-week minimum Jul-Aug (rentals are Sat-Sat). 2-night minimum off-season (May-Jun, Sept-Oct). 6 person maximum occupancy; $100/wk per person over maximum occupancy. Cottage is not rented during the winter (unavailable mid-Oct through mid-May). Check in 3 PM; check out 11 AM.
  • A non-refundable reservation deposit of $300/week ($50/night for shorter stays) is required to hold the reservation. Remaining balance plus a $400 refundable security deposit is due two weeks prior to rental. The security deposit will be returned within 14 days of departure.

    Add $75 cleaning fee and 7% sales tax to all rates.

    Rates are confirmed at the time of making the reservation. We reserve the right to change rates for unconfirmed bookings.

    If you are not a caring, thoughtful, responsible person, kindly rent someone else's home. We will not rent to vacationing students or singles under 25 yrs of age unless accompanied by an adult guardian or parent.

Relaxation at it's best

When we arrived (coming from our life of luxury, hi-tech & fast pace) I was taken a little by surprise. The road is a narrow, rock road on a hill lined on both sides by wildflowers & woods. As you drive down the small slope towards the cabin you can see the lake. It was beautiful & yet a little scary (I guess I've seen to many Friday the 13th movies). My mind wanted to run to an air conditioned luxury hotel. But after about 30 minutes my mind relaxed & started to meet my breath which had deepened to a long, slow pace. At night we'd sit & watch the stars while fog crossed the lake & the loons called out (if you've never heard a loon call it's haunting & beautiful at the same time). The hi-speed wireless internet worked great. The stairs to the 2nd floor & the steps down to the lake are narrow & steep and the shower tiny. But, this place is so nice despite those things. It's relaxing & beautiful. We took some amazing pictures. I have friends who live about 20 minutes from here & they came over almost every day to enjoy the lake. If you are looking to relax - this is the place.

sweet and charming - Martha Stewart style

As described online, Little Loon Cottage IS adorable. Martha would be proud! It is just as cute as could be with everything you need: Down duvet/comfortors on comfortable beds upstairs, an outdoor deck for meals and a pretty indoor dining room for rainy weather. The cottage is right on the lake with a small dock for sunbathing.
It is definitely a "camp" and a romantic one at that. We didn't mind bringing our own linnens and drinking water, which could be an inconvenience for some people I suppose--it was just too charming for us to care.
We will definitely return to this peaceful little haven again. The owners have created a stylish yet simple get-away cottage that is just delightful and a trip into Waterville is an easy 15 minutes away.. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit again.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Wonderful week

We had a wonderful week in a sweet camp on a beautiful lake. The setting is quiet, restful, and quite private. The initial discovery that there was no TV reception turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it forced us to think of other things to do. The place was clean, everything works the way it's supposed to, and actually looks nicer in person than in the pictures. We would certainly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a place to escape the stresses of everyday life.
