Ferrara - city of culture - and bicycles

Gloria's apartment, located in the historic centre of Ferrara, is a delightful place to stay. It is very central, close to the Castello Estense and 3 minutes walk to the Duomo and Palazzo Diamante. Other attractions, such as the Palazzo Schifanoia, Casa Romei, Palazzo Marfisa d'Este, and the large variety of churches, and other museums, are in easy walking distance. Located in a old hospital originally, the apartment is accessed through a tranquil and beautiful cloister, and reached by stairs or elevator, on the first floor. A large sitting /dining room, and kitchen, with extremely generous collection of cooking utensils (includes dishwasher, fridge, freezer) leads to a corridor, off which are a large bathroom, and 2 bedrooms. The storage space is plentiful, computer and internet access is provided, together with TV, DVD player and a small assortment of films for viewing. We were met promptly by our very pleasant host and escorted to the apartment, which was clean and beautifully maintained. We did have a problem with hot water supply, and when this became too uncomfortable to continue with, our host responded immediately by bringing the appropriate workman to the apartment, despite this being the Sunday before Christmas Eve. Driving in Ferrara is not necessary -the city centre is small and utterly exquisite. Everything is within walking distance, and 2 bicycles are also provided for those interested. We left the car in a garage provided free of charge, and retrieved it at the end of the stay. As a party of 4 plus dog, the bikes were not required, but would be extremely useful for a couple -bicycles are the main mode of transport in the city centre. We have stayed in over 35 different rental facilities over the last 20 years, and would rate this extremely highly. We also found that contacting the owner prior to our visit was easy, and we were supplied with a large amount of information regarding location and amenities, together with information regarding activities, restaurants, and attractions, all of which was concise and accurate. We plan to visit Ferrara again in the next few months, and will certainly arrange to stay at Gloria's apartment again. My only reluctance in rating this so highly and publicly, is that when we rebook, we may well find that it is too popular for us to return.
