This turn-of-the-century, family, lake lodge is in the township of Barkhamsted, in Litchfield County, in Connecticut. It is in the foothills of the Berkshires, nestled at the northwest bank of Connecticut's clearest lake, West Hill Lake. Other points of interest in relatively close proximity are New York City, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Long Island Sound, Boston, Plymouth, New Haven, Mystic Seaport, and lots more. The owner retained the nostalgic feel of a comfortable antique lake home while updating it with state-of-the-art insulation and central heating. The original fireplace was of course retained as well. The architecture is and has always been in the style of Adirondack arts and crafts. Much of the furnishings are of that style as well. The four bedrooms, which all have direct access to a full bath room, can accommodate 10. There are studio beds in nooks and crannies on the first floor which can in some circumstances accommodate 6 more.

Barkhamsted is a rural township, not a town. Not to worry that you are far from conveniences as there is the vibrant town of Winsted and several shopping centers only one and a half miles from the house. Even though it is rural there are many interesting, quaint and some bustling towns nearby. They all tell the 'New England' story. The Litchfield Hills are alive with the sound of music. The Yale summer school of music is in Norfolk, 20 minutes straight west on Rt. 44. Tanglewood, Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home is an hour away. That's just to name a few of many music venues. There are stage theatres as well.

Notes: There are two kayaks to use on the lake. One is a two person kayak and the other is for one person. We have a brand new dock, large enough for the whole family to party and picnic together. The out door property is left natural and rustic. There are two charcoal grills and an electric one.There is a web site link for a website used previously when the owners ran B&B By The Lake. It is not used as a B&B now but the web site offers a wealth of other information. You will find that and the nearby Ski Sundown website in the 'further details' section just below. West Hill Lake has been studied for ecological health for over 40 years. It has been found to be the cleanest and the clearest lake in Connecticut. It is also rated to be a top fishing lake. It is well stocked by the state of Connecticut.
