History of the Farm:
Originally given to pioneers Moses and Barzilla Griffin as part of a Mexican Land Grant, circa 1827. Already having a home on the property which was built in 1882, the couple first lived in this house they called the 1882 House. This was the family home until the main house was built and they moved into it with three children in 1961.
They not only farmed the land and raised horses and Beefmaster cattle, their children fell into the practice of collecting stray animals and had as many as 13 dogs at one time. Having foresight and vision for the land and its welfare, they never mowed wildflowers, refused to allow hunting, and always fought for land rights and preservation of flora and fauna.
