Lurais is within easy reach of the Loire where almost all of the nobility in France built themselves a chateau during the 17th century. Most of these wonderful chateaux are open to the public.
Le Moulin de Lurais is in the 'Parc Naturel Regional de la Brenne'. designated such because of its varied and fascinating wildlife and the 'Pays de Trois Vallees', the Creuse, the Anglin and the Gartempe. This is a magnificent landscape of rolling hills and wooded river valleys, farmland and forests, fields, rivers and lakes. In the surrounding countryside are excellent facilities for cycling, canoeing, walking, riding, climbing, fishing and golf. There is excellent fishing in the many rivers and lakes in the area.
There are good Golf courses in nearby La Roche Posay, and at Poitiers, Chatellerault and Chateauraux.
The 'Centre-Ouest' is one of the main wine growing regions of France. Some of the best known regional wines are; Vouvray, Montlouis, Muscadet, Sancerre, Pouilly, Saumur Champigny.
