Discover Mexico's Switzerland -- Valle de Bravo. We have a new villa, Casa Cantil, in this charming lake town. My wife is the architect and we built it as a labor of love. It has cozy sitting areas, three fireplaces, an infinity pool, and a sweeping 210-degree view looking down on the town, lake, and mountains. Besides the house, we offer a very comfortable experience ... our guests all rave about the hospitality. Think of it as a private boutique hotel with daily maid/turn-down service, Mexican breakfasts with freshly squeezed juice, and four-course lunches prepared with ingredients from the farmers' market. Although Valle de Bravo offers lots of fun activities, most guests just relax in the house, enjoy the view, and get spoiled by our friendly staff. Hablamos español.

Valle de Bravo is one of Mexico's 'Magic Towns' (along with San Miguel and Taxco), 2-3 hours from Mexico City. It is known as the Switzerland of Mexico as it is mountainous and clean with an 8 square-mile lake and pristine pine forests. At the same time, it is classic colonial Mexico -- a centuries-old church in the main square, houses with ceramic tile roofs, and plenty of Mexican music, energy, and color. It has a cosmopolitan side, too, with a buddhist community, an eco-tourism resort, and a spa. Our house is centrally located, a short walk to the square via cobblestone streets full of bougainvillea, African tulips, and hummingbirds. You can relax at the house or go waterskiing, horseback riding, sailing, mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, or see the butterflies. Valle has it all and will someday be discovered by tourists, a la San Miguel. You can easily combine Valle with beach resorts thanks to two discount airlines with hubs in Toluca.

Notes: This is more than just a house rental -- it's a private five-star hotel in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The villa comes staffed with daily maid and turn-down service, full breakfasts, and multi-course lunches for a nominal fee. It compares favorably to the top hotels in the area ... Rodavento and Meson del Viento are great but don't have lake views. And we wouldn't stay at El Santuario after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. Other features include a wine cave, fireplaces, a home theater with AppleTV, a wood-burning brick oven for pizzas, an infinity pool, and a Sonos music system (using wireless controls you can choose from millions of songs and play music all over the house.) There are romantic, cozy sitting areas for relaxing and talking, with Moroccan lanterns, and an impressive infinity pool which can be heated for a fee. Wireless internet and an office. We can arrange airport transfers to/from Mexico City or Toluca as well as tours to the pyramids and Mexico City.

Valle de Bravo -- Eco-Tourism Capital of Mexico: Valle de Bravo is known for its outdoor activities: paragliding, mountain biking, hiking, sailing, horseback riding, motocross, golf, and water-skiing. There is an eco-tourism resort nearby called Rodavento. You don't need to bring any equipment with you: you can rent mountain bikes in town (with a guide), rent boats on the lake (both sailboats and motorboats), hire horses or ATVs, etc. From November to March, 300 million monarch butterflies converge in the nearby butterfly sanctuary (a park ranger is stationed at the outskirts of town to slow traffic because the air is thick with butterflies). You can of course swim in our pool, which we can heat for a fee. There is a wonderful open-air market with fresh produce every day and an artisan market. The weather is great. In the summer magnificent, intense thunderstorms sweep in across the lake in the late afternoon. You can lie out in the sun and swim year-around in our pool & yet it is cool at night, ideal for lighting fires and sleeping.

Valle de Bravo -- a paragliding Mecca: Valle de Bravo is world-famous among paragliders and hangliders for its thermals and spectacular views (Valle hosted the 2009 FAI Paragliding World Championships). You do not need any experience to enjoy this sport as they can send you out on a piloted tandem jump with a professional instructor -- my 67-year old mom jumped for the first time this way. At 1pm she called fly Mexico (one of the local outfits) and by 3pm she was floating over the town. It cost about $100.

Getting to Valle de Bravo: You don't need a car here. Valle is a 2-3 hour drive west from Mexico City. The nearest major airport is Mexico City's (MEX), about 60 miles east. If you fly into MEX, we're happy to arrange a car to drive you to our house. Nearby Toluca is also a hub for two new discount airlines, InterJet and Volaris. Both fly all over Mexico, making it inexpensive to combine Valle with a beach destination such as Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, or Cancun. From Toluca, you can fly just about anywhere in Mexico in two hours; flights on these airlines usually cost less than $100 each way. We're happy to arrange an itinerary that gives you the best of both worlds -- charming colonial Mexico and great beaches. Some of our guests like to combine a trip to Valle with a sightseeing tour of Mexico City and the Teotihuacan pyramids. We can arrange a bilingual guide to pick you up in Valle early in the morning; you can tour the pyramids midday and still have time to catch your afternoon flight from MEX.

Es una casa maravillosa, todo esta cuidado con esmero y detalle. Las vistas, el lago, la comida, el silencio, el servicio, la piscina climatizada... etc.
Todo esta pensado con un gusto exquisito, el menu que dispone la casa es cocina tipica mexicana que nada puede envidiar a un restaurante de lujo.
Los dias se hacen cortos en esta casa.
Sin duda repetiria la estancia.
Gracias a los dueños y a el equipo que cuido de nosotros durante el fin de semana.

Perfect weekend with my parents

I recently stayed here with my parents from North Dakata. I live in Mexico City and they were visiting me in Mexico for two weeks. I was looking for a very nice house with an amazing view, warm pool and great food and we found it here! Everything was absolutely perfect. The owners accomodating to our needs and very friendly and welcoming even calling shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was ok. The house caretakers Isadora and Ciro did their job extremely well cooking fantastic typcial mexican fare even meeting our special request that the food wasn't too spicy. I highly recommend this place which was perfect for us or would be perfect for a large family get together. My siblings have already seen pictures and want to organize something for our entire family. And my parents said the bed in the master bedroom was the most comfortable bed they have ever slept in!

Wow! What a memorable weekend

I wanted to treat my mother to a very special weekend in Mexico and WOW, this turned out to be a stay we will never forget. This beautiful home way exceeded our expectations from the internet description. The house and property in general is right out of the pages of “Architectural Digest” and the owners went WAY above and beyond to make us feel like family and at home. From the moment we opened the door and saw the view we knew we were in for a magical weekend. Ciro and Isadora, who keep this home in immaculate condition, took complete care of us, from serving amazing meals to lighting fires for us at night. We were not allowed to lift a finger! This home is full of incredible details; the most unbelievable, 200 degree view of the darling town below and the entire lake, a sound system throughout the house that lets you select from thousands of songs to make your own custom playlist, a heated infinity pool, a warm décor and cozy rooms/beds. The owners were so lovely and went out of their way to ensure we had the food we liked on hand and even made a special birthday Flan for my Mom. We felt so relaxed and pampered by the end of our stay that we did not want to leave. My family and I have stayed at some incredible places, all over the world, but have never been to such a beautiful home or been made to feel so special – we were treated like queens! Did I mention the view? I would describe the town in more detail, but we could not bear to pry ourselves away from the house to go down and explore Valle de Bravo. Maybe next time – we will definitely be back. Seana
