Great Island is surrounded by Point Judith Tidal Pond and is adjacent to a quaint fishing village (Galilee) with restaurants, gift shops, parking, charter boats/marina, and the Block Island Ferry. Exclusively one family homes. No stores or amusements to attract noise or tourists. Very little traffic. Safe for kids. Right of way to launch boats next to property with beach and swimming. Foxwoods gambling casino is within 45 minutes drive. Original cabin was built by Professor Wales and his engineering students as a class project. Although updated, it retains its 1930's charm. Cottage features a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, Florida room, laundry area off Florida room with washer and dryer, and living room with studio bed, and cable TV. Enclosure has a hot/cold outdoor shower. HEATING FOR Winter Rentals: gas, electric, and wood. Wood stove in fireplace requires 2-3 cords for winter heating.

Other local activities include: miniature golf, bumper boats, roller skating, public golf courses (within 15-20 miles), private golf courses (within 5 miles), camp grounds nearby, shopping in nearby towns, flea market (within 20 miles), Point Judith Lighthouse, etc. Point Judith Tidal Pond, also known as Salt Pond, has direct access to the Galilee harbor, Snug Harbor, Potter's Pond, as well as to the Atlantic Ocean and Jerusalem Beach. Newport is about 40 minutes away with many historical sites (such as, Vanderblt Mansion, Navy War College, etc.), Naval Base with commissary, entertainment, U-Pick strawberry farm, music festivals, etc. University of Rhode Island is about 12 miles away often has stage entertainment, as does Theatre-By-The-Sea in near-by Matunuck. Foxwoods gambling casino is within 45 minutes away.

    Fall-Winter rentals pay for all utilities and services: gas, electric, cords of wood, water, cable, internet, telephone, lawn mowing not to exceed $25 per cutting (landlord pays the difference), and any other services tenant uses. Landlord pays for weekly trash removal.
  • Arrival time 2:00 PM EDT... Departure time 10:00 AM EDT... other arrangements may be possible, ask owner.
