Curaçao Carnival: 4 - 24 Feb 2010 (annual):
A corner of the Netherlands Antilles explodes with color during the annual Curaçao Carnival. The vibrant mix of Dutch, Portuguese, Jewish, African and South American cultures present on the island makes for a unique and fabulous party.
The fantastic ten-mile dancing processions from Santa Maria to Otrabanda include a horse parade, a children's parade, a teen parade, the Grand Carnival Parade Feb 14 (Gran Marcha) and the final Grand Farewell Carnival Parade, Feb 16.
February 4 – 8. Don't miss the Tumba Festival, a five-day extravaganza of Curaçao's local tumba music, where the best local composers, singers and bands from all over the island compete for the honor of having their piece selected as the year's official Carnival road march Tumba song. As symbol for infertility, sins, and bad luck, the straw-filled king, Rei Momo, is burned in a spectacular ritual at the end of Carnival, the day before Ash Wednesday.
