NIce little place

Cdn2009 Toronto
Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We stayed at this apartment the past weekend, and enjoyed our stay. The space is perfect for 2, 3 or 4 would be too cramped.

Positive things about this place: great amenities in the apartment, close to subway, and nice apartment. We loved the artwork of the girl sleeping - it was beautiful.

Negative things: There is a washer but no dryer, so not sure why that is advertised. Our neighbour offered to give us a clothes hanger in lieu. International calls to the US we thought were included, we were told not too, as they are too expensive. Lastly, a day before my arrival, the greeter information was changed, and I did not have access to MS Word at the internet cafe, so I had to scramble and figure a way to get my new greeter information. What would have happened if I did not check my email that day??? I thought that was poor communication and coordination on behalf of the management.

Overall, though we were happy with the place.
Owner's Response: While we solicit reviews and appreciate a rating of 4 out of a possible 5, we feel it important to respond to the negative portion of the critique and clarify the record. The clothes washer/dryer is in fact one unit which does both wash and dry. Uncommon in the US, it is a high end European model which the guests were apparently not familiar with. That is why we provide written instructions in English for all appliance usage, at the apartment.

The telephone is in fact free for calls back to the US to landlines only (not cell phones).

As to the last minute change of greeter, everything was fully coordinated on our end. Had the guest called the old greeter, having been unable to recover her e mail, the new greeter would have been notified. Everyone was always aware of their obligations and duties. The last minute e- mail advising of the change of greeter was done merely as a courtesy to the guests.

Finally, we do not advertise the apartment as being appropriately sized for 4 persons and do not rent to parties of 4 for that reason.

For a great time in Paris

Cimber San Francisco, California USA
Review Submitted: February 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I'm glad to write a review of my stay in this wonderful little apartment in August 2008. I and my niece had a great first visit to Paris and felt our visit was greatly enhanced by being able to return time and again to this charming place and rest. It rained the week we were there and we hardly noticed the weather, we had such a great time in Paris - largely because of this cute little place.

The apartment was exactly as it was in the photos. Very clean, quiet, and a wonderful view of the best of Paris color and charms. It was within walking distance to the Metro, cabs, Sacre Coeur, souvenir shops, bakeries, delis, and outdoor restaurants for a great breakfast, other meals, and snacks. We were able to visit the Sacre Coeur not only during the day but return at night to see the whole city light up. We walked to Place Pigalle and even the Moulin Rouge although those required much longer walks. The TV, phone, dishwasher, and clothes washer worked well but all the directions were in French, and we knew no French and so felt very much in a new culture. The cobblestone street is steep and on both sides are charming buildings with window planters and cats. The neighbors were as charming as was the entire colorful block. It is a great romantic place for 2 although 2 couples would have to be very friendly indeed. Small children may find these quarters cramped. Older people would have to be reasonably fit - it's on an upper floor with no elevator and cobblestones are hard to walk on. The halls and stairwell are also very very dark at night. Taxis had a hard time getting to the street since it was one way and the downhill end had a fence and some stairs to the next street. I'm almost 60 years old and my niece almost 30. She didn't have any trouble dancing up and down the street. I preferred to walk slowly.

I highly recommend the apartment for the young, the adventurous, and the romantic. The little street is hard to find, thank goodness I bought my GPS. However, my niece stopped and studied the directions we were given and found the street the same time my GPS did, of course. We really loved the apartment and the location, and would gladly rent it again the next time we're in Paris.

Parisian for a Week

Kyliebaby3 Orange County, CA
Review Submitted: January 12, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Touching down at CDG with a rented apartment is an altogether different kind of travel experience. And when it's this apartment, you'll understand why I did it for the second time, and will invariably be back again.

"Charming" doesn't begin to describe this well-appointed apartment that is literally steps from the Sacre Coeur. While it has every amenity a traveler from the U.S. might come to expect, it integrates the allure of all things Parisian in a very tasteful way. From the copper door to the art and mirrors adorning the walls, after climbing up the requisite flights of stairs, you’ll feel like you’ve flung open the door to your own Parisian getaway. And as a traveler who loves to browse the local markets and cook, the design and functionality of the immaculate kitchen are unrivaled; it has everything you need to cook for one or for many.

Something that’s important to me as a traveler is convenience, and this apartment exudes convenience in more ways than one. For starters, it’s located about equidistant between two metro lines (4 and 12), meaning getting to the central arrondisements or to one of the many train stations for suburban or international train connections is a snap. And secondly, the owners couldn’t be more responsive, agreeable, and expeditious when it comes to making arrangements. In fact, my deposit was refunded to me before I even arrived in Belgium for the second half of my trip.

Do yourself a favor and rent this home away from home! But please don’t go when I’m planning a trip; I’d be heartbroken if I had to stay anywhere else :)

A real charmer

Anna B Portland, Oregon
Review Submitted: January 9, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
This place is a real delight. My two friends and I stayed here for Christmas and we had a lovely time. The kitchen is well stocked with not only utensils, but with necessary basics such as olive oil, salt, sugar, seasonings, tea, and baking ingredients. The espresso machine was not working properly...I suggest the management purchase a new one. There was no bottled water, and no toilet paper or paper towels provided, as the advertisement said would be, and no wireless internet (it is DSL, and can only be used by whoever is plugged in)... Other than these minor details, this place was great! Richard, the Paris contact, was welcoming, kind, and full of great suggestions. Being students, we were very worried about internet fraud, and reticient to pay everything up front. The New York agents, while firm in their procedures, were understanding of our situation. We talked with them extensively and gained confidence that they were legitimate.
Our refund deposit was handled promptly and fairly. I would definitely recommend this apartment! It is lovely, clean, inexpensive, and spacious. There was always enough hot water for the three of us. The washing machine was extremely appreciated. The hide-a-bed (for two) wasn't so hot, but what hide-a-bed is? The day bed (for one) on the other hand was very comfortable. The neighborhood is charming. A very good deal!

Never again!

We Lowe Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Review Submitted: December 18, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
We stayed at this apartment twice on our way to and from a visit to friends in Qatar. Although the apartment is lovely, we found dealing with the New York owner difficult. Because of a two tiered key system and poor communication, we found ourselves stranded for 10 hours on our return to Paris with serious jet lag and no entrance to our apt. His contacts in Paris are not at the Apt. or easily accessible. There is also no wireless internet as advertised. The telephone, internet and TV were not working on our second visit. We would not stay here again.
Owner's Response: The guests making this unjustified complaint were referred to us through someone who previously stayed with us. This person apparently had a pleasant enough experience to make a positive recommendation. As such; namely a referral, we bent over backwards to accommodate them on any number of special requests and conveniences. For example, the second leg of their visit with us, after a short side trip to Qatar, was not planned in advance but requested at the last moment after they initially checked in. We had back to back rentals but made special accommodation for them to be able to return several days later. This entailed among other things, rearranging another guest’s rental, a full cleaning of the apartment and explicit instructions to take the keys with them so that they could return at their leisure without the necessity of our “greeter” being involved. They “misunderstood” these directions and left the key locked in the apartment resulting in their being locked out upon their return. This explicit direction was made in writing via e mail which they acknowledged as having received. Not traveling with a cel phone, all communication was through their intermediary family member here in the US. There is indeed wireless high speed internet access as well as free telephone to western Europe and the US (land lines) as well as full cable HD TV. The guests were directed to a hotel once we learned that they locked their keys in the apartment, so that we could arrange for emergency access the following day. Notwithstanding that their hotel stay was necessitated by their own negligent actions, we paid them back for ½ the expense. It is unfortunate that in every business there are always those clients who, no matter what you do for them, are never satisfied. These are just such guests. In summary, without casting blame, we worked tirelessly at long distance to resolve the problem these guests brought about on their own. Once rectified, we went the additional step of refunding half of the expense they incurred; at all times keeping lines of communication open.
