Situated on 7 scenic acres, with over 300 feet of oceanfront, the 180 degree view of the ocean and the islands from almost every room in this house is breathtaking. Located just off the Lighthouse Route, Old Salt is the perfect location to allow you to explore the very scenic South Shore. Besides the stunning natural beauty of this area there are many exciting activities to experience and savour. The area is known for its hiking trails, kayaking adventures, wildlife both in the ocean and on land, golf courses, numerous beaches, restaurants and local craft shops featuring Nova Scotia artists. Bayswater Beach, voted one of the best beaches in Nova Scotia, is minutes away. Peggy's Cove and Chester are less than 30 minutes from the front door. Lunenburg, an Unesco world heritage site, and Halifax are just under an hour away. Everything you need to enjoy a quiet vacation or an extensive tour of the South Shore can be found at Old Salt.

Fall Retreat at Old Salt

I am one of 7 adult guests who enjoyed a week here in Sept. 2009. This historical home overlooks the ocean and nearby islands. The back deck is perfect for morning coffee, afternoon tea, and watching the beautiful sun set in the evening. Lots of shopping and restaurants available in nearby towns. Easy access to beach fronts, hiking/walking trails. Internet cafe minutes away, with wonderful menu and icecream! Nearby Hubbards Farmers Market excellent place to get local fare on the weekends. This vacation home has character and personality, with beautiful wool hooked rugs/mats on the floor and walls. Kitchen stocked with every necessary item to make meal preparation easy, including dishwasher for easy clean up. A peaceful relaxing getaway. Very caring and attentive owner.

Great Destination for Reunion and Getaway

Old Salt is located on a hilltop with a great view of Mahone Bay, Little Tancook Island and the Atlantic. It is isolated away from neighboring properties and has access to the bay - although there are good beaches a mile away and 3 miles away (Bayswater). The accommodations were comfortable for a group of 5 adults who divided time between local sightseeing (Halifax, Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay and Leunenburg) and hanging out on the back deck. Chester is the closest town with shopping and has a good harbor-view restaurant/bar - the Rope Loft. We enjoyed our two weeks at Old Salt tremendously. The owners and caretaker are very easy to work with and have local roots.

For a curling team of four teenage boys and their coach, Old Salt provided a spacious opportunity to relax between matches. The rugged coast line offered stimulating strolls and the scenic view rewarded our early rising for competition each morning. Conveniently located as a launching point to curling clubs in Chester and Lunenberg, as well as day trips to Peggy's Cover or beyond.
