A charming beach cottage that has been in the family for four generations. Carmela cottage is a quaint, charming cottage at 16 Old Colony Road in Old Colony Beach, a private beach community in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Old Colony beach is a wonderful summer community with beautiful water views and a clean sandy beach. Carmela cottage has two bedrooms (one full size bed, two twins that can convert to king) a futon (queen) in the living room and a daybed on the front sun porch. A kitchen with breakfast counter, living room, a dining area for 6 and a sun porch along with a large yard and off street parking, completes your vacation space. The cottage is a 5 minute walk to the beach, and ice cream, lemon ice, a carousel, coffee and newspapers are all within walking distance. The beach association offers children's activities including weekly movies on the beach.

Summer brings seasonal residents and visitors to visit many of our quaint town attractions. The town's famous private and public beaches look over Long Island Sound. Old Lyme is also home to a lake front park (Rogers Lake at Hains Park), and several smaller parks and boat landings on the Connecticut River and tidal estuaries. The town is also home to the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. Today, the Florence Griswold Museum's doors are open to the public for a wide range of educational programs and nationally recognized exhibitions. Other local area attractions are: Mystic Seaport & Aquarium, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos, Children's Museum-Niantic, Submarine Museum- Groton, Ferries to Block Island, Golf-Flanders, Fenwick, Stonington & Groton, Millstone Science Center, Whale and Seal Watching - Waterford.

We just spent the week of September 13-20 at this cottage, and we had a great time. The house is within walking distance of the beach - not too far, not too close. It is as described, you will have the true cottage experience here. The house had plenty of room not to get on top of each other. Rustic, yet charming and nice way to spend a week at the beach.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Beautiful yard, cottage very spacious

Our stay was wonderful. The cottage was spacious and comfortable., with all the comforts of home. The yard was well maintained and had many beautiful flowers. It was a great place for relaxing, quiet moments and watching the birds. The owner was very helpful and courtious.

During our stay we enjoyed dinner at the Naitic Diner, and pizza from, Pizza Plus. Both were very good.

We would definitely recommend this cottage to a friend of family member.

Private and clean

This property is well maintained and clean with a home-like feel but with the privacy of a getaway. The closeness to the beach was a huge plus as is closeness to major roads to and from cottage. Will look at staying here again!
