The Perfect Wedding

Review Submitted: September 21, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
We can't say enough good things about this place. If you are looking for a getaway, the rental home has everything you would want and more - warmly decorated, immaculately clean, room for three couples and 2 kids (you could have 4), a huge open space for modern living - a great open kitchen for cooking, dining, hanging out together, relaxing, enjoying the views from inside or outside, the sounds of a brook as you fall asleep, great new bathrooms, storage for all your bags and clothes (you will want to move in), laundry, and anything you might need right at your fingertips. But it doesn't stop there. Not only is this place in one of the most charming parts of the Southern Berkshires, 5 minutes from downtown Great Barrington, the house is nestled on the most beautiful property, with views of the mountains, sunset, horses, trees, butterflies, and the most magical fireflies in June that light up the pasture to mirror the starry sky. We got to stay on the property for a week, enjoying the nearby lakes, hiking, restaurants, ice cream and coffee shops, and could easily have stayed for longer. And then there are the Brunnschweilers, who take such good care of the home and the property, are right across the road, and bring such joy to everything they do. This past June, the entire Brunschweiler family helped us make our dream wedding come true, and extended us incredible generosity by allowing us to use the property for our ceremony and reception. From mowing and staking out part of the horse pasture just for us for the tent rental, to helping with parking for 100 guests, they helped us escape all the hoopla and expense that can go along with the whole wedding business, and gave us a truly amazing place to gather our friends and family to celebrate our union. We had wanted the feel of a backyard barbecue, and instead got a sweeping sunset mountain vista, with majestic galloping horses for company, and thousands of fireflies like dancing stars come to life among us in the twilight, along with countless hours of help and preparation from the Brunschweiler family that made the whole thing seem effortless. This is a very special home, and a very special family that shares it with those of us needing a getaway, a place to rest or rejuvenate, explore all the arts, culture nearby or adventure into all the surrounding natural beauty. It was also, for us, and maybe for someone else someday, the perfect place for a country wedding.

Wonderful Family Getaway!!

Review Submitted: February 25, 2010 Date of Stay: February 2010
My family and I just returned from a long weekend at this property. We had 4 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 2 1/2. All of us loved this house!! From the moment we walked in, it felt like home. The owners really go the extra mile to make the house welcoming -- they even left a toy slide in the living room for the kids to enjoy!

The location was perfect for a ski weekend at Butternut, it took a mere 10 minutes to get there. Enjoying the restaurants and pubs in Great Barrington was also very convenient and only 5 minutes from the house. When you are at the house, it feels away from everything and peaceful. [Side note: we really enjoyed the Thai restaurant in GB]

The set-up of the house was great. The three bedrooms on the main floor are nice sized with comfortable beds. The master has a fireplace and huge closet and the master bath is a good size too. The attic room has 4 twin beds and will easily please children. The stairs are a bit steep up there, so toddlers beware :-)

The water pressure in the master shower was fantastic and the hot water lasted for a long time (very important when we're all showering apres ski).

The kitchen, living room and dining room are all in one big open floor plan. It made it very easy to all spend time together and keep an eye on the kids playing. We enjoyed relaxing on the comfy counches and oversized chairs. Plus, the TV was a great size to watch the Olympics.

The house was immaculate! It was also very well stocked with supplies for the kitchen, cleaning supplies and laundry supplies. There was even coffee and new creamer in the fridge so that we could enjoy our first cup of coffee.

The property itself is very pretty. We enjoyed playing outside in the snow. My little one who is too young to ski loved sledding in the backyard. They also enjoyed watching the horses but were not brave enough to get too close.

To be honest, my parents and husband were a bit skeptical about my booking a random property on-line, but they all were impressed with the house. I got to gloat for a bit about my "find". They all want to return next ski season.

I would absolutely recommend this property to a friend. In fact, I already did. My ONLY hesitation in writing this review is that the house will get so popular that I won't be able to book a few weekends for next year! :-)

Home again

Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The first reaction I had when we pulled into the driveway was WOW. This is more perfect than I had hoped it would be. The inside of the house was even more impressive. It was immaculate. The photos do not do this place justice.

I had booked the house for the month of August as an escape from the heat of Virginia. Within 24 hours it felt like home. For anyone coming in, check all of the cupboards and storage spaces before you go out to buy the things you think you need. Except for food most of it is already here.

Others have mentioned the fields and grazing horses but it’s still a pleasant surprise, particularly in the early morning when the mist might still be on the higher ground. Beautiful. The one thing that can’t be stressed enough is how quiet and peaceful the property is and yet it is literally minutes from Great Barrington and all that it has to offer.

This has been a convenient weekend trip out of NYC for my sons and granddaughters. (about 2.5 hours) There is plenty to keep kids busy in the area but the girls 5 and 8 get the biggest kick out of feeding carrots to the horses in the afternoon.

We all fit comfortably in this environment created by Rosa and Carol. One could not ask for better hosts. Fear not. You will love this place.

Perfect Family Getaway

Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Within a half hour drive to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow and the Norman Rockwell museum, with woods and stream just outside the door, this sparkling clean home makes for the perfect family getaway.

Plenty of space and basic supplies for a big family or even 2 couples with kids.

Bring suntan lotion, kid trackers, mosquito spray and some cored apples to feed the owner's beautiful herd of horses next door, and your kids will enjoy this Berkshires getaway as much as the most avid culture seeking adult.

The fact that it's only a few miles to Stockbridge gourmet supermarkets makes it all the better.

Don't miss exploring the lovingly restored New England towns of Great Barrington and Sheffield, too.

Awesome Home

Review Submitted: June 3, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We had a group of 10 people driving out from Cleveland, OH for the races at Lime Rock Park. The main reason I picked this property was the proximity to the race track and that it was pet friendly, as we had our German Shepherd with us. This house was absolutely perfect for us ... 3 bedrooms for the couples and 4 single beds for the singles. The pictures on line do not do this home justice. The main living space combines a spacious living room with a wall of windows on all sides to show off the beautiful view, with the open kitchen and dining room. There was plenty of room for all of us to walk around, cook, use our laptops and share the common areas. Everything worked perfectly. The homeowners own some horses and board others, a few of which were running around in a field next to the home, which was beautiful to watch, and they were quite friendly and would come by the fence for a greeting. There is a beautiful view of the mountains out the front of the house, which has a small wooden deck and worked well for drinking our morning coffee. There's also a stream running behind the house, and with the windows open, what a soothing sound. Unfortunately we did not explore the area much, only went from Lakeville, CT and back to the house along Route 7. It's off the main road (Route 7) so it's quiet with an occasional car going by, but close enough to gas and food when needed. We hope to rent it again next year and for years to come ... definately a AAA+ home.
