Nice View, Hungry Ants and No Air Conditioning

The pictures are very accurate and the view of Mount Shasta is stunning. You can see more stars at night than you've probably ever seen. However, let me prepare you:
1. We were disappointed to arrive and find an incredible invasion of ants in the master bath and bedroom. Made me wonder if the place had been cleaned recently. We put down ant bait and they finally stopped coming in after 4 days.
2. Mouse droppings were found in the kitchen drawers. I couldn't make a big deal out of it with Shasta Vacation Rentals because I didn't want my family to know (no cell service and only 1 working phone in the bedroom). So, I cleaned up quickly and prayed we would not have another occurrence - constantly checking every morning and keep food in ziplocs. My family thought I was acting strange. We ate out all the time to avoid using the kitchen.
3. The air conditioner in the master bedroom did not work - and there was an old sign on it that read out of order. Hmmm, seems they could afford to put in a new one or fix it considering they are renting this out? It was 95 degrees every day and the nights were uncomfortable.
4. TV - The owners only had basic cable - so it was hard to get any news and some shows we like on cable. The profile said satellite cable, but it's not that much.
5. The guest book mentioned other summer renters issues with mouse droppings and air conditioning as well. Seems owners don't read it or check. There was no welcome binder to explain how to use the tv remotes, kitchen, lights (very weird electrical system) and only a binder with lots of old brochures. We added some to it for future guests.
The back porch is very nice with lots of space for cooking out (though you have to rig the bbq grill). The steps on the entry could cause elderly some problems as the rocks and dirt have settled so it's awkward.
It was nice, but not great. I would not rent again considering it took Mount Shasta Vacation Rentals 1 week to send me the paperwork. That was nerve racking. They never called to check on us ( every other rental we've made with other companies have always called).
Owner's Response: 1. The reason we have on-site management is to handle any problems such as ants or mice, which occur rarely-but it is a country property and we try to take precautions to avoid these situations. Cell service is not great in the mountains, but the phone in the bedroom is provided to contact the management when necessary. 2. The air conditioner in the master bedroom has been repaired several times and we have ordered a new one. There is another one in the alcove off the master that works well to cool the master when used with the ceiling fan to move the cool air around. 3.The dish netwoork satellite for the TV has always been adequate in the past for news and provides over 50 channels of service. 4. The guest book is provided for comments about the time spent at our home and helpful recommendations to other guests. All complaints should be referred to the management which is available 7 days a week and works hard to fix any problems asap. The light switches are labeled and we provide instruction for the TV remotes in the cabinet above the TV. We encourage guests to add to the collection of brochures in the binder for local recreation and restaurants. 5. The front steps have never been a problem for other guests, but there are two other entrances, if needed. 6. Mount Shasta Vacation Rentals has managed our property for several years and we have had very few complaints about their service. I have not experienced other managements calling to check on guests, but was always glad to be able to contact them if a problem arose. Please be assured we strive to respond to the needs of our guests and have had very few complaints.
