Miserable experience
Review Submitted: April 24, 2009
Date of Stay: April 2009
I was one of three guests who stayed in this cabin. On the first night, central heater quit working and the outside temp dropped to 22 degrees. We used up our supply of firewood quickly. By morning, the temp inside the cabin had dropped to 50. We were told by the owner that it was our fault for not bringing enough firewood. He refused to refund the rent for our first frigid night's stay. We left the next morning because it was too cold to stay. We were refunded our second night's stay after intervention by the management company.
Also, the cabin was not clean upon arrival. There were ashes on the living room floor around the fireplace, and the dishes were dirty.
The bed linens did not smell clean, and there were no top sheets, just comforters. There was only one towel in the bathroom for three guests.
Owner's Response: I am writing in response to an unfortunate incident which
occurred with one of our guests. While staying in our
mountain cabin the heater pilot blew out and the guest
got cold. I was called @7:20 A.M. and called back @ 7:30
A.M. to advise him on how to turn the heater back on.
They gues not only did not answer my call (wherein I would
have given him the phone number for our maintenance man
up there) but left of his own volition. When contacted later
on that day I passed on his complaint to the owner directly.
The guest used threatening language and offended what is
a very kind and calm owner.
The guest was refunded his two day rental and left my
office satisfied that it was an unfortunate accident that the
heater went out. Two weeks later his letter was sent in.
Obviously it was a case of sour grapes and we assure our
guests that we clean the unit after every visitor and make
every effort to help their vacation be an enjoyable experience.
