Comfortable, very clean house in Betterton, Maryland. A great place for an affordable autumn getaway. For those who love the outdoors, biking here is wonderful. The roads are relatively flat with wide berms. Or take the kayak out on the Bay or up the Sassafras River to really enjoy fall foliage. If you'd like a bit more excitement, nearby Chestertown is 20 minutes away. Visitors to Washington College will find this home an affordable and comfortable alternative to a hotel. The house was recently decorated in tranquil robin's egg blue and sands for a very restful vacation. The king-size Sterns and Foster in the master bedroom will ensure you get the rest you need and deserve. Open the windows and enjoy the fresh night-time air. Betterton is very quiet, especially at night. The house is fully equipped with 100% cotton bed linens and mostly natural fibers in furniture and rugs. Just bring towels and you're set!.

  • The master bedroom is gorgeous. The cathedral ceiling with exposed collar ties highlights the historic character of the house. A large window looks out over Betterton, with glimpses of the Bay visible from the room. The king size bed is top quality (Sterns and Foster), very plush. Just adjacent to the master bedroom is a very large dressing room. (Not included above.) It could easily accommodate sleeping for an infant or small child. Cot provided. Two twin size beds in each of two smaller bedrooms (4 beds total) can be arranged as a twin and a trundle, two twins side-by-side, or a single king size bed. These two rooms are a bit small, and would function best with two children or an adult and a child. Two adults in each of the smaller rooms is an option.

Notes: Cell phone coverage for Verizon is great; spotty for T-Mobile. Other carriers not known. The drinking water is delicious! I've never tasted better. Kayak is very stable, more like a canoe in handling. Water sports equipment (tubes, floaties, etc) provided. House is a non-smoking house. Removed iron and board. Died in July 2009 and not yet replaced.

Beautifully maintained home

We just recently came back from a weeks stay in Betterton. First off let me say that we were two adults with four teenagers ranging in ages from 18 - 15, I thought that we would be a tight fit but we had no problems at all. The house was much bigger than it appears in the pictures and beautifully maintained and decorated throughout, it was exceptionally clean! The pictures really don't do this house justice! The kayak that is there for the use of the guests was great fun for the kids, very safe to use at the local beach a few minutes walk away.

We went into Chestertown several times to eat at a restaurant that is right on the waterfront called the Fish Whistle. It was delicious with excellent service. Chestertown also has great little shops. We even managed to book a trip out on the Sultana Schooner one afternoon which was great fun! The location of the house is in a very quiet area but if you are looking for a quiet relaxing family vacation then this is for you. We even managed to travel a little further afield and incorporated a couple of college visits from this location which was great!

The owners were very helpful and accommodating researching information for us regarding a couple of questions we had prior to our visit. I would and have recommended this vacation home to our friends.

Got a Getta Way

We just came back from a very relaxing week in Betterton. We took several day trips from this location. One day in DC, one day in Annapolis, MD a beautiful old seaside city and a day at a local county fair. I did an internet search to find this fair and found that they have them in this area during most weeks in the summer in different counties. This area is surrounded by farms and rolling pastures bike riding is great here! We did all our shopping at a Super Wal-Mart about 40 minutes away and with the many farm stands in the area fresh vegetables are in great supply. The beach was very nice and never crowded we got to go everyday during our stay. We have not come back from vacation this relaxed ever!! Everything about the house was better than we expected and our standards are pretty high.

Charming clean older home, in quiet small town

If you are looking for a peaceful friendly beach and boating area without all of the fanfare of a busy resort , this is your spot.The home is charming, tastefully decorated, well equipted kitchen and very clean. We especially enjoyed the comfortable beds with clean fresh linens.
The owners provided excellent customer service and were very responsive.

The kids enjoyed the quiet ,clean not overly crowded beach.I enjoyed long peaceful walks around the quiet town veiwing the older homes.
Our plan for our week in Betterton was to get some down time and just relax. My husband and son did some fishing they also did some jet skiing on still pond.My daughters did some sun bathing. I relaxed with a few good books and visited a few shops in Chestertown .We spent our evenings together whaching TV, a DVD, playing cards or board games
We very much enjoyed our family week of peacefulness and will consider visiting again. Julia

relaxing family get away

Lovely, well maintained, clean, nicely decorated, old house in a small, picturesque town. A great 2 week get away for our family. Our 7 year old enjoyed playing in the "waves" and digging in the sand (he was glad he had water shoes since the shoreline is rocky) while his older sisters tanned, kayaked or swam in the Bay. (the seaweed was icky some days but we got used to it)

We bought most of our groceries in Chestertown but the little shop in Still Pond has the basics. The house's kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, etc. and most of our meals were home cooked. We loved eating out on the back porch.
The restaurant in Betterton is only open weekends. We ate there once and found the food just okay and the service very slow. There are some very good restaurants in the nearby towns (Rock Hall, Galena, Chestertown, Chesapeake City)

The only thing the house is lacking is a washer and dryer. We found a small laundromat/store/diner -about 5 miles away- in Worton (near the intersection of 298 & 297). Don't be discouraged by its looks- we had a nice breakfast while we waited for our laundry to finish! There are also laundromats in Chestertown.

The owners provided excellent customer service- and were very easy to contact via phone or e-mail. I have already recommended this property to many of our friends.

A very comfortable and pleasant house

Nice, clean house. Great responses from owners. Especially liked the restaurant on the marina in Charlestown, the Still Pond General Store, and the restaurant on the wharf in Chesapeake City. Beautiful scenic area, and Betterton is a cute little town.
