Absolutely Gorgeous

I stayed at Lani Iki for a week in 2008 and it was easily the most relaxing week of my year, if not the past several. The apartment has pretty much all the amenities couple or a small group could need, and the description and photos of the property do it justice visually, but you have to see and hear the exotic birds, smell the sweet, fresh air, and feel the re-energizing sun on your skin to get the big picture. Every morning I woke up there and walked out onto the deck with my Kona coffee, grown on location! It was relaxing to say the least.
As far as activities and attractions are concerned, there was something for everybody. While my girlfriend is more of a "lay around and be served drinks by the pool" kind of person, I tend to shy away from large resorts, preferring to look for deserted, hard to reach beaches. To make a long story short, on our trip back from hiking to a near-deserted snorkeling area (we saw one woman with two children over 4 hours) where we swam with sea turtles and all sorts of fish, we took a well deserved pit-stop by a resort's swimming pool. My girlfriend and I were completely content and tuckered out and the end of the day, and returning to Lani Iki at the end of the day was the icing on the cake.
We kept busy paddling with the dolphins and snorkeling in the Kealakekua Bay; we explored black and white sand beaches (and even one that has both) all over the island; we visited volcanoes, orchid farms, and golden pools, and we did all of this without spending much money or driving time. An absolutely gorgeous and fulfilling vacation.
