Welcome!

Potential Thief Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Review Submitted: July 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
As I stepped out the back door of the Bank House for the last time after our three week stay, I noticed the black rubber mat that had been carefully placed where you step down. I thought about stealing it for a brief moment, not because I needed a mat but because it occurred to me that it just wasn't needed there. Not a plain old normal door mat, this one was special because it had the word "WELCOME" boldly splashed across the face of it. It was a Welcome Mat. After three weeks of dealing with Ken and Susan, our gracious and friendly hosts, of getting to meet some of our neighbors who helped to make our stay so special, and of using this beautifully restored cottage to strike out from and explore, or stay home in and relax, the mat just didn't seem to be needed at all. From the exciting day we booked the Bank House until the sad day we left, time after time and in so many different ways we had been given the message that we were welcome there. Nearby beach combing was probably Carol's favorite activity, as she collected shells and sea glass on special assignment for our granddaughter. A nearby golf course provided one of my favorite activities. And then there were the day long car rides. These took us to many interesting spots on the island, many of them in Charlottetown, but were never so distant that we couldn't return to our cozy little home away from home in Murray Harbour. And each time we came back, the little house and the people around it did good things to welcome us back. If you're thinking of booking this spot for a vacation, I don't think you'll have any regrets at all. This was supposed to have been our very last trip to P. E. I., but we're starting to consider maybe just one more, and the Bank House will provide our shelter if we do return. It'll be good to see that mat again, too, so resist the urge to steal when you leave, please.
Owner's Response: Our quiet, friendly village of Murray Harbour will always have the Welcome Mat out for visitors who come to appreciate our way of life and enjoy the beauty around us.

Wonderful !!

Review Submitted: June 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I was dreaming to visit Prince Edward Island since I was a teenager. I was a Anne of Green Gables fan. Finally, I had the chance to go there last summer with my husband and my 3 years old son. We were looking for a nice little house, not in a too touristic area, and we found the Bank House. On the web site, we were charmed by the pictures but when we opened the door at our arrival, it was more than what we expected. This house is wonderful, the beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is equiped like our at home, the view of the river in front of the house is picturesque, even the neighbours are nice. We found also useful to have a internet wireless connection. We followed the weather forecast of the island day by day and easily choose our activites in accordance to it.
We had really appreciate that Murray River is a quiet and lovely village not to far from Charlottetown and Cavendish just enough to be less crowdy and give you the opportunity to feel the island and the islanders. We found everything that we need at the village grocery, we had delicious lunch at the village restaurant, we had good time at the local beach.
But overall, it was the welcome and the kindness of Sue and Ken who make the difference. Thank you so much for the wonderful vacations that we had in your beautiful house. We hope that we will have the chance to come again to visit you soon.

Serene beauty, exquisite restoration, classic PEI

Linda & Richard Coventry, CT
Review Submitted: May 27, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
As first-time (but not last) travelers to PEI, we struck gold when we found Sue and Ken Attaway's lovely Bank House in Murray River, on PEI's beautiful, friendly Southeast coast. The cottage is meticulously restored and beautifully decorated, with all new appliances, luxury linens, and no detail overlooked, from supplies provided to the cornucopia of guides and suggestions for day trips and activities.

Our favorite thing was sitting out on the front porch in the evening, watching the tranquil and picturesque Murray River a stone's throw from our front door, and taking a walk down the hill to the harbor full of lobster boats, with the village restaurant that served the best, freshest seafood chowder that we have ever had. We became regulars for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

When we weren't enjoying the home-cooking at the best little eatery on the island (with the friendliest waitresses), we got to appreciate Bank House's wonderful modern kitchen, with every appliance and utensil we could need.

With satellite TV, the Murray River at our doorstep, every room beautifully decorated, a lovely garden, and the most sumptuous beds we have ever slept in, we never wanted to leave. But the lure of PEI's wonderful golf courses, lovely coastline, historic lighthouses and easy crossing on the Wood Islands Ferry to Nova Scotia enticed us away for daily, memorable adventures. (We even snuck over to Nova Scotia on impulse overnight and did a driving tour of Cape Breton's breathtaking Cabot Trail.)

Great golf, great beauty, friendly people, wonderful food, a lovely, working fishing harbor, and the best cottage on PEI - we will always remember our first vacation in Bank House, and we will be back as soon as we can.

Sue and Ken, you were gracious, generous hosts. Your hard work in restoring Bank House to the outstanding example of the classic PEI home that it is, has created a peaceful retreat that will welcome and give pleasure to the many lucky guests that discover this gem in years to come. We came for a week, and wish we could have stayed for a summer. Thank you so much!
