For vacationers and permanent residents, Jekyll Island offers a variety of activities. Children and adults can visit the nature center, play on the courts of tennis center, try their hand at the miniature golf course, relax at Jekyll's new playground, go fishing, or head down one of the water-slides at Summer Waves waterpark. The historic district, once the winter home of America's wealthiest families, makes a fascinating destination.
Visit the Georgia Turtle Center and participate in Turtle Patrols during the loggerhead nesting months. Dolphin watch boat trips leave from the Island Club Marina, and marsh trips are also available. Bird watching walks can be arranged. Tidelands Nature Center offers education about the island ecosystems and offers canoe/kayak trips.
Jekyll boasts over 20 miles of bike trails wandering alongside the ocean, across the marshes, and throughout the Historic District. A new favorite are the Red Bugs, electric vehicles perfect for island sightseeing.
