Imagine a top-class winery in the heart of Burgundy (in the village of Pommard) where the vigneron’s wife is a professional chef (who will give cooking classes on the premises) - for wine buffs and gourmets, where better to spend a fascinating and delicious vacation? Owned by a family established in the area since the 12th century, Les Rugiens is a country home and working winery of mellowed honey-color stone, with an arched gateway and two wings framing a graveled courtyard in classic French style. Off one side of the courtyard a garden provides a refreshing alternative for outdoor dining in the shade of the tall trees. Below ground is the cave with its rows of sleeping tonneaux awaiting their moment of glory. Since the property is right in the village, you’ll only have to walk a few yards to fetch the morning croissants, buy fresh local meats from the butcher, visit the épicerie for your grocery needs, or sample a local vintage. For the wine connoisseur this valley is paradise found
