MIxed Feelings

First of all we had been trying to contact the care taker for 2 days now to no avail...he had no telephone...it was disconected!!! That certainly alarmed me as we had paid in full for the downstairs apartment. So make sure you call whatever number they give you to make sure it's working. I left a message at the wee hours of morning to the owner and he gave us the telephone number for the driver who did not answer until later the same day we were arriving. We arrived at the island at about 6:30 PM and to our disgust the apartment was not ready for us (the beds were not made, the floor was still wet, etc). Were informed by the caretaker that sign in was at 3:00 pm anyways... we were there at around 7:00 PM and the apartement was not ready. So, make sure you call on your way there and give them the heads up. Maybe they'll be ready. We had to wait, outside with the mosquitoes and us tired from the trip. The downsatirs apartement's view is the house of the caretaker which leaves much to be desired with stuff lying about, so I am very glad we were there for the beaches and not the view out of the apartment. The rooms are spacious, one full bed in each. There is a closet in each bedroom, a TV with Direct TV (we were not able to watch one of the TV's because the cable was disconected, actually disconected because they only had one card and for our bad luck that card expired when we needed it most because the last days it was raining cat's and dogs and we couldn't go out at all so we had nothing to do).Your regular motel blankets so I advice you take your own bedding if you want to be comfortable. The beds were atrocious though. Same as sleeping on the floor so do not expect much comfort there. There was suposed to have been a Patio built, there was only a slab of concrete, no railings, not safe at all, no chairs, nothing. Only a bunch of stuff (I have a 5 year old and he wasn't allowed outside the apartment at all because of that and the stuff lying around) For the price don't expect too much. RENT A CAR the closest beach is 10 minutes away IN CAR!!! So location is not all that. If you're walking to the town it's about a 20 minute walk. Make sure you take cash, there are 2 ATM's but they run out of cash very fast. The basics are good, the bathrooms were clean, the kitchen was clean, which reminds me, we came one day (the day we finally decide to cook by the way) and there was no gas! So, they had to change the gas range with the electric one upsatirs, which meant more waiting. All in all if you're not going to be at the apartment much it's okbut take into consideration that if it rains it's where you will be stuck so take some games.
Owner's Response: I am the owner of Casa Mango on the island of Culebra, Puerto Rico. Angel ,the former caretaker, has been relived of his responsibilities concerning Casa Mango. Vacation Planners on the island of Culebra has taken over the management of the 2 properties. Mike and his crew do a magnificent job of managing properties on Culebra. The new patio is being tiled and a guard rail installed as I write this reply.
