What a Disaster!

My wife and I rented this property for the month of August. When we arrived, we were extremely disappointed. The house was filthy. There was dog hair all over the floors from previous tenant(s). The bathrooms had hair in all the cabinet drawers, dirt in the shower/tubs, and a used bar of soap in the shower stall. It didn't look like anyone had cleaned the home before we arrived. One of the tub faucets had a constant leak with a dead scorpion lying in it. The carpet was so filthy, we couldn’t walk barefoot on it without getting our feet dirty. We had to clean the place several times, just to get rid of the dog hair and make it habitable. Part of the bedding was also unusable with two of the master bedroom pillows having large yellow sweat stains, and the third pillow had blood stains. Also, all but one of the kitchen lights were burnt out, and the family room vertical blinds were inoperable. It took two weeks to get the majority of the issues corrected, (some were never resolved), due to the fact the owner and his family were vacationing in Europe for a month, and his regular maintenance person didn’t respond to our calls. The cleaning fee was refunded to us but we felt that wasn’t enough of a refund for all the trouble and filth we encountered. The owner said he wouldn’t do more, and he felt the issues were not that significant. I bet this owner would never allow his family to stay in such an unpleasant property as the one he rents.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. I appreciate constructive criticism as my goal is to always provide a welcoming and comfortable stay for all of our guests. We do our very best to resolve any issues in the timeliest manner . We take great pride in the home. The carpets are cleaned quarterly and we have a professional exterminator under contract for visits as needed. Our housekeeping service ensures the house and all linens are always cleaned thoroughly after each guest checks out. Our number one priority is that the home is comfortable and clean for all of our guests. Prior to your arrival, as is our usual policy, the home was cleaned and inspected by our cleaning service and manager.
My family and I have stayed in the home as often as we can and did so for a week immediately after you checked out. As always, we enjoyed a comfortable stay in a tranquil environment in the desert.
