spacious and comfortable

for more than a week beats appartement was our home. after exciting days in manhatten we enjoyed the privacy and the comfort (hbo, wireless lan, ...) to recreate für new adventures in the mega-city. self-caterers are supported by the pioneer-supermarket. and if you prefer fresh croissants for breakfast the choice-market half a block away is the first choice. if we'll return one day to new york, we'll stay here again!

Even after 7 weeks: still a great place

A Belgian visitor Ghent, Belgium
Review Submitted: August 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I spent almost 7 weeks in this apartment during the summer of 2009 and am happy to confirm the many positive things that have been said about it. The images on the website are accurate and all appliances are still functioning as they should. Let me just throw in a few extras for those who want up-to-date information. Some of these comments may sound a little negative, but as you see, they have not kept me from evaluating the location with the maximum of five stars.

The nice big tree in the back garden has been cut, so that the back view from the bedroom isn't exactly pretty anymore (but surely one doesn't come to New York to study trees in back gardens?).

The totally addictive Choice Market doesn't only have its wonderful food-on-the-go store on Lafayette, but also an organic food shop very nearby on Greene, where you can get fruit, cheese, and even fresh sushi.

The wireless internet connection isn't really usable in the bedroom (where there is a desk): you have to use it in the living room.

For short-term visitors, the subway connection to Manhattan is no problem, but if you are staying for a more extended period and think of going back and forth a lot, you should be careful. The crosstown G is seriously maltreated by the MTA and has a tendency of running irregularly, plus you need to calculate at least two waits on station platforms before you get into Manhattan. If you're lucky, you get to Union Square in half an hour, but if you're not, it can be 40 minutes. (On the plus side: the G has just been extended into Park Slope, which is great for those who want to visit this lovely neighborhood and dine in its many restaurants.) The C train is a pleasant 10-minute walk away and takes you directly into Manhattan, but note that the line has recently been voted the worst in the city: it runs even more irregularly and can easily keep you waiting for another 10 minutes. Getting to Washington Square took me 45 minutes on average.

I haven't felt unsafe during my 7 weeks, though of course one should be alert and not worry too much about somebody being shot dead in the same street by an undercover narcotics cop. Overall, I loved the tree-lined streets and wonderful architecture of this neighborhood, its diverse population, not to forget a number of fantastic local restaurants like Olea (on Lafayette), Luz (on Vanderbilt), and Ici and Madigo (both on DeKalb).

Lovely and convenient apartment

Sktr Texas
Review Submitted: June 17, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We loved our stay in this brownstone apartment just a block from the Pratt Art Institute. The apartment is spacious and comfortable; the bedroom is airy, looks out on trees, and is surprisingly quiet. The neighborhood is great for walking to nearby parks and wonderful restaurants (including the terrific Choice Bakery a half-block away where we were treated like regulars after only a couple of days). Beat, the owner, lives in the same building and was helpful, gracious, and not intrusive. We definitely will return.

Great time in Brooklyn

Nelia Berlin, Germany
Review Submitted: March 15, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
I was visiting NY for the first time, and a friend of mine told me about this lovely place i could rent in Brooklyn.
I was first cautious because i was traveling as a single woman, but i soon realize that staying here was the best choice i have made.

The apartment is gorgeous, spacious, clean and nicely decorated.
The bedroom is looking out into a quiet backyard (i have never slept in such a comfortable bed besides my own).

Clinton Hill is a very charming, safe, and diverse neighborhood.
The apartment is situated just one block from the G-train that takes you to Manhattan in only 20 minutes.
One block from Pratt Art School with its contemporary art work around campus.
You can find a huge selection on Restaurants(American,African,Asian kitchen ect..) Coffee places, Bars.
There's this little French Café around the corner called Choice Market, where you can not only eat delicious sandwiches(Steak Pan),
French pastry ,but also meet very interesting peoples from all over the world "The real Melting pot"!

Thank you Dirk and Beat for your hospitality!

Home Base for a Great Week in the City

DLBCO Boulder, Colorado
Review Submitted: December 1, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
This very clean apartment was a great place to stay. Because the bedroom (and large, very comfortable bed) are in the back, it is comfortably quiet - a welcome respite from Manhattan. The subway (G - crosstown, connecting to trains to the city) is a half block away, or you can walk a few pleasant blocks to jump right on an A or C to downtown Manhattan.

The neighborhood is wonderfully diverse. You only have to spend a morning at the Choice coffee shop (something I recommend - great pastries, soup) just down the street to appreciate that. There are also several good restaurants nearby - including a West African place just around the corner that offers salsa nights a couple of weekends a month - as well as a grocery store right across the street.

The owners were friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a sanctuary away from Manhattan and don't mind taking the subway back and forth to the city, this is a fine place to stay.
