The Serenity Stone Cottage is tucked into 5 private acres of meadow, pond and forest in the historic town of Heath in West Massachusetts. Close to the lovely village of Shelburne Falls & just 5m to Vermont! In the Berkshire Mts, just off the scenic Mohawk Trail. Many fabulous destinations (museums, artisan crafts, bistros, rafting, skiing, concerts and festivals) less than 1 hr away. The original Serenity Prayer was written by renowned theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in this 1930's cottage! Explore the rich social/spiritual history or simply enjoy a peaceful retreat. European design w/balcony porches, courtyard garden, hidden stone stairway. Spacious interior (on 3 levels) thoughtfully renovated to reflect original charm. Antique & vintage decor/loft over living rm./cozy library/skylights throughout/fireplace/hardwood floors/original artwork & a few touches of luxury. The SERENITY STONE COTTAGE is located in the historic town of Heath (pop. 805), in western Massachusetts. Heath is 3 miles off Route 2, also known as the Mohawk Trail, a gorgeous drive through the Berkshire Mountains. Interstate 91 connects to Route 2 in Greenfield, MA. The Mohawk Trail boasts a national forest, antique shoppes, sugar houses, Native American crafts, the famous 'Hairpin Turn', and ends in North Adams, home of Mass MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art). Heath is very near SHELBURNE FALLS, a charming village w/ famous Bridge of Flowers, artisan shops, bistros, film and music. The cottage is just 6m from Berkshire East ski center, and 30 m to Mt. Snow in Vermont. White water rafting (and tubing and zip-lining) on the Deerfield River just 6m away! Also LESS THAN 6 miles to: fiber arts (angora goat farm), apple orchards, country store, winery, maple sugar houses, 'homestead' cheese, blueberry farms! Walk to hand-blown glass studio, local library, pet llamas, basketball court.

    Our cottage has 4 heating zones (for propane-fueled baseboard heat), is fully insulated, and has storm windows. Also, we have 2 fireplaces and 1 woodstove, as well as lots of cozy blankets and quilts for your added comfort during nite hours.
  • Quoted rates are based on max. 6 guests/ occupants (only). PLS. NOTE: Seventh guest subject to approval and surcharge per night. (Max. of 7 guests allowed.)

How many Guests?: The Serenity Stone Cottage is ideal for 4- 6 guests. Rates apply to a maximum of 6 guests; 7th guest subject to owner approval plus a nightly surcharge. This is a spacious cottage with many options for privacy. The Master Bedroom Suite (w/ private full bath) is secluded from the rest of the cottage; it includes a small private porch, and a library/sitting area that offers a quiet retreat where you might read or write after the other guests are asleep. An open Loft creates a third level above the main living room; light and peaceful, a heavenly place to nap. The entire lower level of the cottage is an informal TV and GAME ROOM - send the kids down to play while you sit on the south balcony porch and just listen to the birds (or watch the falling snow).

The cottage was lovely. Rustic but very comfortable. We enjoyed staying here much more than we would have at a hotel or B&B. We have four children and there was room for everyone. The kids loved exploring the property and we didn't need to worry about disturbing other people. We found everything exactly as described on the website. It was very clean and obviously lovingly maintained. The owner was very attentive and had the house ready for us early and called to let us know we could get in. We would definitely recommend this to friends, especially those with kids that enjoy room to play and run around. We easily drove to Shelbourne Falls restaurants for dinner. We really liked Ollies Down Under. This cottage was a great place to stay when you want to explore the Mohawk Trail and the little historical towns along the Trail, go apple picking or just get some good clean crisp air.

Food for the soul

We stayed at Serenity Stone Cottage in mid-May whilst visiting relatives in Vermont. As soon as we entered the cottage, we immediately felt at home and quickly realized that we would probably never want to leave; everything was so perfect. We loved the thoughtfully decorated rooms, including a very special loft where we could gaze up into the stars through the skylight at night. We also enjoyed sitting in the comfortable wicker furniture on the balcony looking out over the pond, listening to the wind in the trees and trying to identify local birds. The quiet surroundings and the serenity emanated from the cottage were truly food for the soul.

Whilst taking a short walk to idyllic Heath and visiting the library with our four-year-old, we were also struck by the friendliness of everyone. Additionally, Shelburne Falls was only a short drive away, a village of quaint cafés and unique stores, including a real gem, Stillwater Porcelain.

The Andrews family has managed to create a true home away from home, which we would highly recommend to any of our friends wanting to experience the very best of American hospitality.

Comfortable, peaceful; wish we lived here!

We stayed here in early April while visiting local colleges. If you are looking for comfort and convenience in a rustic, rural setting, this is the place! It was cold and windy outside, but very comfortable inside. Burning firewood in the central fireplace heats the living room, "white bedroom" and loft very well. Baseboard heating is available for the other rooms, yet with all the warm blankets and comforters we did not need to use it much. The house still has its 1930's charm but has been completely updated so that it is clean and comfortable everywhere. Lots of separate rooms, nooks and porches for privacy even with larger groups (we had two adults and four teenagers). Skylights abound which really brightens up the master suite, kitchen and loft. The large yard, woods and a even a babbling brook with nearby beaver pond provided lots of outside fun too. No cell service but calling cards are available. We found their new wireless internet service to be very convenient. Lisa and Steve were great hosts. They have a real gem here. We recommend it highly.

near everything but plenty of quiet

I have stayed many places in Western MA and Southern Vermont. This is certainly one of the best. Very lovely house, freshly rehabbed and clean. While you may never have heard of Heath, it is within 30-45 minutes of the Northampton/Amherst area, Mass MOCA, Brattleboro and So. Vermont ski areas, etc. A very short drive to Shelburne Falls, a quaint town with several nice restaurants. Besides what it is near, the cottage offers a lovely place to just hang out, read, walk in the surrounding woods. There are many rooms and seating areas for privacy or time with family and friends. Highly recommended!

Our family just got back from a simply magical vacation in the Stone Cottage. It is wonderfully appointed, very convenient and yet removed enough from all the hustle and bustle so that you feel you have escaped into another era. The owners of the house are wonderfully attentive, making sure that everything is just right. The house is historic but beautifully maintained. There is lots to do in the area at any time of the year. We will be back.
