Nova Scotia is approximately 6 hours by air from the United Kingdom and Europe. So it is possible to set off in the morning and be in the cottage in time for dinner.
If you would like to visit U.S.A. while you are in Nova Scotia, ferry crossings to Bar Harbor and Portland Maine, both in New England, from Yarmouth in Nova Scotia, are operated by the CAT, which is a high speed sea cat ferry.
When hiring your car, be sure to get cruise control for the long stretches of well maintained and extremely quiet roads. In the summer you will also appreciate air conditioning in your vehicle, as the temperatures can get well into the 80s.

Don't forget to feed the local resident Chipmunks, Blue Jays, Squirrels and Hummingbirds.
You are likely to see porcupines, raccoons, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels in the garden. In the woods at the back of the cottage, evidence of the elusive white tailed deer can be seen. Hummingbirds, American finches and blue jays feed from the bird feeders and a brilliant red flash means the cardinal bird is around. Turkey vultures and, if you are lucky, a bald eagle sometimes ride the thermals overhead. In summer the hummingbirds have a feast on the nectar from the touch-me-not flowers and in winter when the flowers die back, they follow the sun south to Mexico, returning to Nova Scotia in May.
